Connecting an Etrex Legend GPS to Garmin Express

Hi,

I have an etrex Legend GPS that I would like to update. It used to work fine when my PC still had a 9-pin RS232 port. I have Garmin Express installed on my Windows 10 PC and it communicates fine with my nüvi 3760 and my dash cam 20.

I do not have any RS232 ports on my PC, so I bought an COM-to-USB converter and Windows recognizes it. I can setup to COM port to whatever port I need Com1, Com2, etc. No matter which port number I use, nothing happens when I connect the etrex to the converter. Going through the "Add a device" feature of Garmin Express does not discover the etrex.

Any suggestions on getting this to work ?

I was having the same issue as I am trying to get my old legend up to date. I discovered that the legend model is not compatible with express and you have to use mapinstall or mapsource to connect them.

There are some folks over on the groundspeak (geocaching) forum that have talked about this. You might do some research over there

As already noted by others - Garmin Express cannot be used to transfer firmware to the etrex Legend.
Try the method described at the bottom of this page:
