Have three Garmin NUVI devices (1490, 2595LMT, 2597LMT) to update maps on, only the 1490 is seen by Windows 10. Reinstalling Garmin Express did not resolve the issue. Googling has not provided a resolution. Windows event logs show the NUVIs being plugged in and a driver assigned but they don't show up a drive. The 1490 works great the others don't. What are my next steps to troubleshoot this?
I believe the 25x5 series devices are MTP mode devices by default, so they do not show up on Windows machines as drive letters. You can change them from MTP mode to mass storage mode (just Google for the procedure), then they should mount as drives.
ADBUCK is correct and there have been some instances where devices have only worked with Express if switched from mtp to mass storage mode but generally they should work in mtp mode. I'm unclear from your post whether you're simply concerned that they don't have an assigned drive letter, which is normal in mtp mode and therefore nothing to worry about, or whether Express simply isn't working with them?
I changed both to mass storage ... Express still does not work with them.
Using the same USB cable that worked the Garmin 1490 but no success. The devices have the express screen on them but timeout after awhile. Read Garmins must be seen as a mass storage device, guess that is NOT the case. Disabled the firewall for a short period of time, that did not help.
That sort of worked. After trying several additional USB cables and different USB ports on the PC the 2597LMT worked. It updated and worked great.
The 2595LMT is a different case. Using the same USB cable and USB port on the PC the 2595LMT does not update. About 1 minutes into the update it disappears from Windows file browser, the screen on the 2595 begins to flash and Express there was an error updating the device. I tried several different USB cables and ports and even reset the 2595LMT to factory defaults - nothing helped.
