I confirm that even after the fourth Full download, the DEM file is still lacking, neither as gmapdem or D2249750A.IMG (this last it sounds quite strange to me because I never noted such filename before...).

Then I suggest you either copy from a back up, if you made one, or if not call Garmin support. Alternatively the Express team here may chime in later ...

Thank you for your kind suggestion, that I know very well... but, in my opinion, this should be only a temporary stopgap, not a solution.
This is a very common bug when the download of the new update is started in the very first days of the release. I don't understand why, and I would like to know why it happens and if there is a way to avoid this problem.

Incidentally did you check for the file in the hidden .system folder?

I have some basic (or more) Knowledges about some garmin and tomtom devices...;-)

Lost DEM map

I also lost the DEM map in the previous full CN Europe 2017.20 map on my 3597.
I had no backup due to a brand new computer.

I tried everything but nothing helped.
Not even our divine Sussamb could help me :-)

I had to send it in to Garmin Repair here in Europe (Denmark).
And they put it back on my unit for free, no charge, only postage paid..

Now it shows up in the map-details again.

My (very personal) thought is that you wouldn't have to pay for the postage ....this is a well known bug of the updating procedure, that must work correctly and for which you had already paid for.

Anyway, I am still waiting for an answer by the express team...
I am the moderator of the gps section of an important Italian forum (motorbike) and I have received a lot of warnings about this bug (gmapdem.img). Btw, in the case of BMW Navigator V sometimes the gmap3d.img randomly disappears too.

...so what is the size of this release?
