Changing Maps

My Garmin = nüvi® 2599LMT-D

The Map of Europe was installed on it when I purchased. I do not want it for Europe but for Ireland. I find that it is insufficiently detailed for Ireland and so want to change the map to the Ireland and UK option, in the hope that I will get better results.

I contacted Garmin Support only to be told: it is forbidden. These are the very words: "Unfortunately as your device came with the Full European mapping, you can not change this"

It seems very unfair to me. Any way around this other than having to buy a new set of maps or another GPS system (not Garmin). Is there anything I can add or subtract to improve performance.
  • The Ireland map is no more detailed than the EU map. Looking at it though it seems quite detailed so I'm not sure why you think it isn't?

Perhaps he needs to check Map Info on the Nuvi and make sure he has the City Navigator Europe detailed maps turned on and not just the Europe basemap.

Thanks for your responses. You say the Ireland map is much the same within the European map than it is with U.K.map That is good to hear. As for turning on City Navigator Europe, I will check that and turn it on if it is not already on. Clearly I need to search for destinations more carefully than I have. I will come back to the forum if I continue to experience difficulty.

By the way, I was wondering what would the basecamp option offer me?
  • BaseCamp is a program that allows you to plan routes on your PC and transfer them to your device, plus many other things. Detail is here
