Map Update Won't See Zumo SD Card

When the Zumo 550 is plugged up to the computer, both the internal and external (SD card) are recognized. However, when I do a map update, I am not given an option of installing the update to the SD card. Express allows me to update both the Zumo and Basecamp maps -- but I get reminded after an update that I'm close to running out of room on the Zumo. It then tells me I might want to install an SD card. Well, I have an SD card inserted and even the Zumo seems to have no trouble recognizing it. And it would make a huge difference on the installation since it's a 2GB card with just a couple "test" photos on it.

When I do update the map on the Zumo, I'm forced to select a portion of the US: Lower 49 States SE. I'm updated to CN North America NT 2017.30. But I would like to know why I can't install to the SD card. Do I have to "wipe" the Zumo and start fresh? Seriously worried since Express does not see the card.

Oddly enough, MapInstall sees the SD card -- but forces me to pick cities to load. This is confusing to me. I'm not sure where the app is finding that old version of "Cities." Might be on my PC, right?

Do I even need MapInstall or WebUpdater. One of these has got to be old.
  • This should be an easy one to answer but it seems all my previous links to Garmin FAQs are no longer working, seems like Garmin have completely redesigned their FAQ pages

I will try to find the FAQ for you but even inputting the previous title into Google doesn't help!

Basically Express won't see the sd card on certain devices, the Zumo 550 is one of them. The solution is to download the map to your PC then use BaseCamp or MapInstall to install the map to your sd card.

Thank you for your knowledgeable response -- and so quick also. I tried to search in a logical way for an answer to my question, but I could find no help.
