India Map update version 2016.20 nuvi2567LM

Garmin Express is not showing any map update while my device has 2015.20 installed on it. Latest version available is 2016.20. I have followed the instructions on the web and it is not working at all. Garmin Communicator Plugin is not getting installed properly.

I am using Windows 10, IE 11, Nuvi 2567LM Lifetime map update, Garmin Express 4.3.0.0 with Software version 4.00.

Edit1: Screenshot from IE11 showing GCP plugin is installed and the device has been detected successfully: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7pckpil8x1t4bmy/Screenshot.png?dl=0. But what next? Nothing happens?
  • Express doesn't use the plug in so that's not the issue. Try deleting the device from Express then add it back.

Correct. Tried your suggestion. Doesn't work. Garmin Express Screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s08966no72v8g3k/Screenshot%202016-11-13%2021.23.28.png?dl=0

I have been struggling with it for a while and not able to get pass this. And I can see it is a common problem that the maps are not getting updated. Don't know what is the right way?
  • Assuming you do have lifetime maps this could be an account issue. You could wait for a response here from the Garmin Express team who regularly pop in, or try phoning Garmin Support.

My understanding is that one goes to this page.

    http://www.garmin.co.in/mapupdate/

I tried it with Win7 SP1 x64, IE11, and the GCP 4.2.0 plugin (which I allowed to run in IE11) and get to a page that says I need to download GCP (which I have the latest version of).

Seems to me something is broken (on the server side?).

I can't help further than that.

PS: I don't think GE will get CN India 2016.20 for you but I could be wrong.

PPS: Yes I did test GCP in IE11 by opening a tab to http://www.garmin.com/communicator Yes GCP was working and detecting my devices.

Yes, this device model is with lifetime free map upgrade. It was one of the main reasons I bought this brand/model for.

Let me share some more inputs --- l bought it last year with lot of enthusiasm. It came with 2014.20 maps pre-installed. 2015.20 was out at that time. I tried everything possible to upgrade but couldn't succeed (tried couple of weeks spending few hours every day:). I talked with the Garmin office in New Delhi, India and handed over my new device to them on their request to check why upgrade is not working. They were in denial initially assuming that I was probably doing it in a wrong way. It took some 3 weeks for them to conclude that they also are not able to do it. At that point of time they sent the device to Taiwan (I think) with the details of the problem. After a month or so it came back with 2015.20 installed and it was working fine. They said that there will be no problem with future upgrades. I used the device for couple of long road trips last year. I even reported couple of issues in the maps that Garmin Delhi office appreciated with the intent that it will help them in improving the maps (HARE). Now that I am planning a road trip in next month, I thought of upgrading the maps to the latest 2016.20 version. To my surprise, I found that it still has the same problem. I don't know if this story will help in troubleshooting the problem but still thought I should share it.

My best guess is that there is something fundamentally wrong with the Garmin Express and GCP routes for this particular model. If this could not be resolved in a direct way then is there a workaround (hack)?

PS: I am an IT professional.

FYI the link I posted earlier sent me to a site in Taiwan (.tw) in the end. Garmin has three main facilities: in Olathe, KS (USA), the UK, and Taiwan. From what I know their download servers are located in the US and Taiwan (for a few things). Garmin India (New Delhi) likely has no more ability to fix anything than you.

I've been using Garmin products for about 15 years and have seen many map updating methods come and go. I thought they'd abandoned GCP (Garmin Communicator Plugin) some time ago in favor of GE (Garmin Express). However it seems there are some map products (CN India being one of them) that still require GCP to obtain.

[FYI many browsers no longer support plugins because of the security risks with them. I know Mozilla (Firefox etc) no longer works with GCP.]

The irony is that all one really needs is the map .img file and an unlock code (if applicable). Garmin has, over the years, tried to make this transparent to the end user. However, as with all technology, their methods aren't 100% reliable.

Unfortunately I have no solution or advice to offer.

India region devices will not update through the typical North America and Europe applications. Please contact India support at:
