Garmin Express v4.3.0 update/sync problems - Garmin Edge 1000

I have recently updated to Express v4.3.0 on my desktop PC via an ethernet connection.

Now I have problems updating and some times sync from Garmin Connect. Edge 1000 have device software 10.00 (WIFI disabled and no apps)

Garmin Express informs that there is 3 updates available (cycle map over europe, time zone map and device software 11.10)

When installing all During step 1 of 3 Software update, "There was an error installing the update" error is issued.

I have tried to uninstall, reboot and reinstall without any luck, I am afraid.
During install it tells me that I might want to delete this file manually on the device: Garmin/Debugging/err_log.txt (it is empty).

I have searched the web without any luck.

Can anyone help, please?

Regards,
Peter
  • Try deleting the device from Express then add it back.

Today I took a nice ride on my MTB and sadly I could not sync it: "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect"! I guess I will have to add it manual for now! :(

EDIT 2016-11-14: Today I saw to my suprise that the ride was synced with Connect - even if it said it failed.

Forgot to mention I tested on my Windows 10 desktop. Today I tried on my old Windows 7 laptop wit same sad result. It seems to be a defect Edge1000 either on SW or HW or even thew v4.3.0.0 Express? :-(

My friend just updated to 11.10 without any issues.

    Any help, anyone?

EDIT: I tried to Factory reset my unit late today. Sadly still no cigar updating the software.

    Nobody with any suggestions?
  • Well GarminExpress is now v4.4.0.0...

    The other things to try:

is there enough space on the Edge...
Try deleting the GarminDevice.xml and restart the Edge...
Also you could try a manual update: get the firmware from http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/ (Edge1000_1110.gcd), rename it to GUPDATE.GCD and place it in the Garmin folder on the Edge...

Thank You very much, it helped!

    I tried to:
    1) Uninstall Garmin Express v4.3.0.0
    2) Booted PC
    3) Ran CCCleaner
    4) Installed Garmin Express v4.4.0.0
    5) Tried with Garmin Express again without any luck!
    6) Deleted Garmin/GarminDevice.xml and Debugging/err_log.txt and restart the Edge
    7) Tried with Garmin Express again without any luck!
    8) Downloaded Edge1000_1110.gcd, rename it to GUPDATE.GCD
    9) Booted the Edge and it installed the 11.10! :-)
    10) Tried with Garmin Express again without and started updating Maps!

Hope it will behave from now on!

    method works

Proposed method worked in my case as well. Just a minor note : rename the file as GUPDATE.GCD with capitals.

gupdate.gcd did not work in my case.

    Thanks for the help
