Safety Camera Updates (again)

I and many others have been having problems downloading our Safety Camera updates for most of 2016.

For my last few updates I have managed to download to my 2545LMT by (very reluctantly) using Internet Explorer 11, after adding https://my.garmin.com to the trusted sites list.

However, today I tried an update as I am going away tomorrow, and after
- Computer is ready for download
- Device ready for download
- Downloading...
the next message is the cryptic 'Download failed'.
No other clues at all.

I see others have reported the same problem in thread and I have checked the document referred to there, but it was no help. As that thread has been closed I have had to start another. And as there is no longer a motoring Garmin forum I have had to put it in the Express one.

Safety Camera Updates are a significant, paid-for service from Garmin, which is not being provided. Please PLEASE can Garmin say when there will be a proper and satisfactory solution?
  • Please contact Product Support, Garmin Express has no involvement with speed cameras, and there is no forum here for issues like the one you're experiencing.
  • I have contacted support by email this evening. The reply was
    A Product Support specialist will respond to you within 3 business days.

    ... by which time I will be several hundred miles away.
  • I'd call them, they have UK freephone number. Much faster response.

    I was able to duplicate this issue and have created a ticket for our IT group to investigate this. We will post here with our findings or resolution.

  • Before I went on holiday I had quite an email exchange with support. After several suggestions from them that I had already told them I had done, they asked me to re-install the plugin. This I did ... then MyGarmin sign-in was mysteriously locked. Support had to unlock it ... but by that time I was driving on holiday - and without an updated Safety Camera list.

    Now I am back from holiday, I was overjoyed to see the announcement about Express now being able to download Safety Cameras! Hoooray!!
    I have just tried it, and it seems to have worked. Much easier, assuming it continues to work.
    Many thanks to Garmin for resolving this one. I am now much more likely to renew the subscription when it becomes due.

    Mind you, I still had a problem with Express trying to download its own update: it gets to about 70% and fails.
    Downloading it anew from the website and re-installing it works, though.
    This has happened with several recent releases for me.
