Installation problem

Former Member
Former Member
Had both G Express and G Connect on my Win 10 PC to use with my Vivosmart HR.
On return from vacation, and after Win 10 Anniversary upgrade, neither will work.
Express has been uninstalled and v4.1.27.0 downloaded using Admin privilege. It will not install. Tried reboots, etc. to no avail.
Connect is still there but refuses to sync with the Vivosmart.
HELP !

    Tried that several times.

As the Microsoft troubleshooter doesn't recognise the program if it hasn't been installed, it doesn't work. Sounds like Catch 22 to me.....

The message from the installer is 'Garmin Device Interaction Service failed to start'
  • This could be due to a privileges error. Are you running the installer as an administrator? Try downloading the .exe file, right click it and select Run as administrator.

I'm running Express on Win10 fully updated with no issue.

    Founders winsto

    No go.

Tried a reboot, new clean download, all other Garmin stuff uninstalled, and 'run as administrator'.

    Same message appears.

Tried disabling Kaspersky - no go.

Have done another search and found problem appearing in an old 2015 Garmin forum - something to do with Microsoft .NET Framework. Oh dear.
  • Well be wary of reading older threads that may appear to have the same issues as you as there can be many reasons for such problems, all that is true is that there will almost certainly be an issue with your system somewhere. However see this FAQ to see if it helps, if not then as suggested call Product Support as some detailed troubleshooting will be necessary

Thanks for your help. Have now contacted Support. This all seems so unnecessary.
  • Agreed but then in your case and in many others it seems like the Win10 update screws up some programs, and not just those from Garmin.

Indeed, but I have a lot of software on this machine and have so far got off lightly !

Have checked everything, latest .NET Framework version installed, tried installing as a new Administrator user - it is very stubborn. Can't believe I'm alone in all this !

(Frustratingly, have just tried installation on my partner's laptop - she's a Fitbit user - and it worked perfectly. Grrrr.......)

...Can't believe I'm alone in all this !...

You are not alone!!! Same problem - Windows 10 (forced) update from Windows 7. Cannot start nor uninstall Garmin.

I can still login to Garmin Connect and it works as it should.
