FYI: My laptop is a HP Spectre 360 with 500Gb SSD and i7 chip running Windows 10
The initial connection worked fine after I had charged the battery in the Zumo (which took nearly 24 hours) and the Garmin Express recognized the device and the application registered the device. Then ran the map update which took an hour and 30mins.
Thereafter my laptop has not been able to "find" the device irrespective of which USB 3.0 port was used or changing the USB cable.
The device did not register as a USB drive that could be remapped as per support suggestions.
What was also curious was that the device would not charge off the laptop but would charge using a 2.0amp tablet/ipad charger.
Using the support instruction for setting the MTP setting to Mass Storage, the device still remained unrecognized.
I also executed the factory reset procedure and the unit would still not register any connection with the laptop.
At this point Garmin support here in the UK replaced the unit with a Zumo 595LM
I have duly charged the unit to full capacity before attempting to connect to the laptop.
This done, connected the Zumo 595 to the PC and surprise, surprise the PC recognized the device as a USB drive F:
Fired up Garmin Express and executed the device search, which was successful and registered the new device.
Proceeded to run the updates, which took just over an hour, after which it returned to the Home screen but with the device button no longer showing active.
Subsequently I have not been able to get my laptop to recognize or "find" the device.
I have completed all the same resolution exercises but to no avail.
My questions are:
- Is this a problem connecting via USB 3.0 ports?
- What level of charging capability is allowed, or needed, if using wall chargers (i.e. 1.0amp or 2.0amp)?
- Would having an SDHC card help or hinder the device being recognized?
Please note that the device works exactly as required when mounted on the motorcycle, but for me to edit and upload maps and routes developed using the Basecamp application, I need the device to be able to connect to my laptop.
If anyone can suggest another way to ensure that the device can be connected, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
