I've got the BMW motorad V with lifetime map and i can't update the map (trying to download europe ntu 2017.20 with garmin express) it just seat there in the uploading map screen, if i check the progress is say 0% or 0.2% (tring multiple time) and the speed jump to 900 kb/s (wich is ludricous beacuse my internet connection tops out at 230 Kb/s ca.) then slowly falls down... been here for some time.
All other update worked well, but not this one. tried updating the SW, stopping the antivirus and win upadate, and adding garmin ex to the firewall, nothing is working, i have a sd installed in the gps, and even tried to download the map to the pc... nothing.
A little help would be nice.

    ...auto answer... sort of...

I've left garmin express running (with av and all still running), but i requested the map to be installed only on my pc, got back from work and it was downloded and working.
Transfered on the GPS, but apparently is not working, is on but express still ask me for the update...
No idea, will let it download in the night... will see what happen...
  • If the map is installed on the PC you should just use Basecamp (free Garmin program) to install it from the PC to the GPS. That is much quicker than downloading it again for the device.

  • True ... But isn't the Nav5 equivalent to the Zumo 590? If so simply using BaseCamp to install the map will mean no updates to the other files that are required, best therefore to persevere with Express.
  • I guess I'm a believer in one thing at a time. If the maps have already downloaded to the computer and I can update them more quickly on the device by doing it with Basecamp, why put myself through the long wait for them to download again?

Then I can deal with the Express issue just for downloading and installing updates. Or, if my device is functioning nicely as it is, perhaps I'll not worry about software updates at all. Someone in another thread is having a problem not being able to connect to the PC with a Zumo after initially being able to connect and applying updates with Express. It has me wondering if one of the updates was the cause of their problem. ???

  • That's a fair point but its not just the software updates I was referring to. Using BaseCamp just to install the map for example would mean no junction view file, amongst others.
