How to prevent Express from deleting downloaded activity files?

I'm not sure if those things are related, but after upgrading Edge520 to the latest firmware 7.0, all my activity files that was stored locally at:

\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\[MyEdgeID]\Sync\FIT_TYPE_4\

were deleted  The part of the files are still present in the device internal flash memory, but many was completely lost :(

My question is: how to prevent Express from deleting local activity files in the folder listed above?

PS: I'm also own the 910XT watch and files downloaded from the 910 was not deleted.

Only activities that have not successfully uploaded to Garmin Connect should be in that folder. You can download any of your activities from Garmin Connect:
    • Open the activity in Garmin Connect
    • Click the Gear icon in the top right corner
    • Click Export Original

Hmm... But before the recent updates, it always kept local files in place. Even if the file was successfully transferred to GC. Strange thing! :)

I know about the function of downloading files from GC but what if I lost about hundred of files?

If I understand you right, to get my fit file I should first upload it to GC, and then download it back? It's pointless. Don't you think?

It's not a big problem with Edge device because it's internal memory is accessible via USB. So, I need just copy activities into a safe place. But in case of 910xt it's becomes a royal pain :)

I think the GE should have a switch somewhere in the Settings to disable local files deletion.

As Jason said, the location you referenced, \Garmin\CoreService\Devices\[MyEdgeID]\Sync\FIT_TYPE_4\, is where pending files to upload to Garmin Connect are kept. This folder should be empty after a successful upload to Connect. Archived files are stored in a different location on the computer. The location is in our FAQ:

Location of stored activity files after ANT+ transfer to Garmin Connect

But in my case there is no such folder for the Edge device. The path

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GarminConnect

has only one subfolder that corresponds to 910xt watch and there is no folder for Edge 520. This is why I referred different path in original message.

That is correct. Because files are archived on the actual USB Mass-storage fitness devices, they are not archived by Garmin Express to the computer. If you want to archive them, you need to copy them from the device to a folder on the computer manually. That is one of the differences on how Garmin Express works with ANT devices vs Mass-storage devices.

If you would like to see this changed, you will need to post the request on the Garmin Have an Idea? website.
