NuviCam LMTHD - Cannot Unlock Maps.... Maps are corrupted (Europe)

I am leaving for Europe tomorrow and could use any help.... Thanks in advance!

I purchased the "Download" version of "City Navigator® Europe NT" from Garmin.com for my NuviCam LMTHD and i am running into error messages that maps cannot be unlocked and are corrupted. Here is what i did...

  • Installed Garmin Express and BaseCamp
  • Updated maps and software on device
  • Installed Garmin Communicator plugin on IE
  • Purchased and Download Europe map to 32GB SD card
  • The map download took a good 30 mins and i can see the Europe Map in BaseCamp installed on SD card
  • When i restart my NuviCam, it always tells me that it cannot unlock maps and that my maps are corrupted
  • I did a hard reset of my NuviCam (from the Speed Panel), still see the error
  • However, i can see the maps and addresses in Europe on my GPS in-spite of this error message
  • I tried unlocking from the Garmin Unlocks web-page and its asks for product key, but i can't for the life of me find the product keys for this map

What do i need to do to get rid of this error?
Do i need the product keys? If yes, where do i find them for the download version of the maps?

I have a lot of driving planned in Europe for the next 15 days and not having these maps is driving me nuts. I dont have much time (i should've bought the maps before) but didnt know i would run into such problems.

Please help!
  • I'm unsure what you're saying here.

Are the maps etc working on your device despite an error message? If so what makes you think the error message applies to the EU map?

All this is new to me and i'm learning as i go... I hoped this was an easy process but its 330AM and im still up trying to resolve this.

The error message goes away when i remove the SD card that contains the EU map and shows up when i insert the card back in.
The SD card is formatted FAT32 and is 32GB

I can't tell if the maps are working but i punched in the address in UK that i am traveling to and i could see the roads and maps. That makes me guess that the maps are fine and i should ignore that message BUT at the same time i dont want to get to Europe and find out that the GPS doesnt work at all. I rather have this fixed before i leave tomorrow.

I am re-downloading the maps to my device right now and will update shortly.

Thanks for your prompt response! If you have suggestions for me to try, please advise.
  • If a reinstall doesn't clear it then list here the folders/files on the sd card ...

However from what you say it appears the maps are working correctly since you can find addresses and see the map detail.

One hour later... after formatting the card and reinstalling the maps, the error is gone, just like that!

I'm scratching my head, not sure what the problem really was, but i no longer see the error messages. Maps are working fine, just the way they should be.
It was a brand new card and i repeated the same steps exactly as the first time, not sure but too tired to do a post-mortem so i dont have to cross this bridge again.

    Thank you for your patience!
  • Great, enjoy your Europe trip.

    I'll close this thread.
