After many year of buying and using Garmin GPS products I have lost my loyalty to Garmin.
Two of my current Nuvi's and my neighbors all developed the loose USB port issue thus leading to faulty changing. So I decided to google "garmin nuvi not charging usb port". What I found was thousands of people with the same issue and even businesses that were created that offer to fix the faulty USB port. And many videos about the issue on youtube. And even found many people on the Gramin forum with same issue.
So I called Garmin support and told them: I have the "garmin nuvi not charging usb port" issue. The tech said they have never heard of this issue before! After I was unable to get the tech to admit this was a known problem. I told the tech that Garmin knows about this problem because there are customers that posted the same problem on the Garmin Forum website. The tech told me that forum was not a garmin website....even tho the URL ends with garmin.com!!! I said goodbye and then called back. But with the 2nd tech I got the same story. I was offered a refurb unit for $80, but I declined....at this point I was too disappointed with Garmins 1. blatant lying about a known issue or 2. How could garmin be so blind to not realize that there was a design issue.
I had at one point considered buying a new garmin Drive car gps, but I asked the tech if the issue has been fixed with the new DRIVE units. And they told me that no changes where made to the USB port between the older Nuvi's and the new DRIVE GPS units. Therefore I will not buy a new DRIVE unit with the same faulty USB port issue.
If Garmin had just been honest and said: " yes we are aware of the USB port issue and we have addressed it with repairs and redesigned the newer unit....then I would have gladly opted for the $80 refurb unit and also probably bought a new DRIVE unit.
Sorry Garmin due to your blatant lying or ignorance to seek out and fix design issues in newer models......I will now most likely become a TomTom customer.
