No-detail-maps-found-that-support-routing (Nuvi 1450)

Ok, I've called Garmin support and chatted 4 times now, and
nobody there seems to know how to solve this.

So, in a nutshell:
I have just Eastern US and Canada maps, installed on
the built in storage (drive E)
The goal is to get ALL USA and Canada, by inserting a
32-GB Micros-SD (so there is sufficient storage to hold
those regions).

So, we plug the USB-cord from the Garmin-GPS-unit (Nuvi 1450)
which launches 2 file-mgr windows (drive e) and (drive f...the Micro-SD)
and Garmin Express v4.1.24 (the latest...upgraded today)
We use th Win-10's file-mgr to quick-format drive F:
(the 32GB micro-SD), and then go into Garmin-Express,
click on 'Reinstall maps. That all runs normally...takes about
45 minutes, and it then SAYS in Garmin Express that now
full "USA and Canada - 2017.20" maps are resident.
(The software/firmware says it is version 6.30)

But, when we shutdown Garmin Express, and unplug the USB
and power-down and powerup the Nuvi, and hit the 'Agree' button,
I immediately see the dreaded "No detailed maps found that support routing"
popup-msg appears.

All my favorites are still intact, but the unit is totally unusable...when you
choose 'Whereto->Address", it responds with "No Map Data Available".

So I'm dead-in-the-water. A complete show-stopper.

Anyone been down this road? Any idea what do to fix
this problem?
  • Let's start with your card format. It needs to be FAT32, is it?

If it is what files are on the card, and what are their sizes?

Also I assume you have checked Tools, Settings, Maps, MapInfo to see if the map is listed there and, if so, that it's selected?

Note though if you've selected reinstall you won't get the full mapset. You need to change regions and select the full map.

    Information to do that is here https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={9c806740-426f-11e2-e8a7-000000000000}
  • It sounds like the nuvi is unable to read the SD card. Are you sure you have formatted the SD card as FAT-32 and not ExFAT or NTFS? If so, the only thing I can think of is to try a different SD card.

OOPS ... looks like sussamb typed faster than me again. At least we gave consistent answers :)

Turns out to be faulty MicroSD...

    Thanks for the answers.

The last support person I talked to, recommended that I do a FULL
format, rather than just a 'quick format'.

[Quick format was NOT showing any error. But, as soon as I
tried a FULL format, it ran completely through (for about an hour?)
but then the popup at the end said that formatting did NOT complete
    successfully.]

    So, I went out and bought a new 32GB micro-SD (A SanDisk/Pixtor
this time), and a full format worked just fine. (Quite inexpensive
    these days...only about $18.)

    [ I hadn't yet seen the first responder's suggestion about doing a
'region selection', but that wasn't necessary. ]

So, I guess the lesson learned is to always choose to do a
    FULL format.

"Happiness is a Nuvi 1450 that now has FULL US and Canadian
    maps." :D
  • Good news. I'll close this thread.
