I have received a 2699 for Xmas and registered the device 28/12. Come to use it the first time - "no map data". Please advise how to proceed. I wish to use it this week. Thanks
Have not needed to use it. I switched it on and made sure it picked up GPS signal and did a software update, but not needed it since - I commute by train. But am going on holiday Friday and want to use it. Is there a problem - other than "No Map Data" message? Would like advice how to resolve problem not discussion as to why not used device so far, if possible. Thanks, Peter Fletcher.
You're missing the point. If there never was any map data it's a different problem than if there was map data but now it's gone.
So I'll try again, when you initially switched it on, got a GPS lock and a software update did it then show a detailed map? Do you even know if it would create a route then?
And yes, there is a problem if you're getting a 'No map data' error message, basically it won't work :) Or rather it will but it'll probably be of no help, as it'll be showing your position either on no map or a rather basic 'crude' (inaccurate and not very detailed) map.
However, in the absence of any detailed info that might help determine the issue have you tried looking in Settings, Map & layers, myMaps? What is listed there? If there is something is it selected? If not do so and see if that resolves the error message.
I see that you updated the maps today which is what I would have recommended. I see that the maps were also updated back in December so I am assuming something went wrong during that update which is why the maps were gone. If this happened after the update today, please try reinstalling the maps.
No manuals included and Garmin website says to use Garmin Express.
Hello, I do not remember if the map drawn 28/12/2015 had sufficient detail. I am sorry but that was one of the mistakes I made, I guess.
If, as you say it's probably broken, then why, how?
The device seemed to work, when first powered up, as discussed earlier.
Could it be that the map I bought with the satnav is too big for the device? Dunno, bit of a mystery to me. There seems to be other Garmin software (Basecamp, MapInstall and WebUpdater) installed on my PC, so will any of those help in getting the device to understand / find the map?
Yes I managed to reinstall the maps. It probably was the windows Ctrl + E that I didn't do before and so even though the map update had completed according to the Garmin software, the hardware disagreed. Ho-hum, at least the 'new' Garmin wasn't as unusable as I was led to believe. Do I need to do something to close the thread?
