I am trying to update firmware on my Smart Scale.

Using Windows 10, I have the ANT stick connected via USB. Garmin Express found the Smart Scale. When I select "Add Device", it begins a pairing process. Pairing eventually times out with the error:

We could not pair this device with Express. Please try again.

I have tried pairing when the Smart Scale is in the following states:
  • Inactive (i.e. a blank display)
  • Active, (i.e. displaying a weight)
  • Reset (i.e. flashing spanner)


All states resulted in the same problem of not being able to pair.

Any suggestions? What procedure have others used to update the firmware?

    I am sorry that you are having trouble setting up your device with Express. Garmin Express is really only used to set up the WiFi connection and add the device to your Garmin Connect account. It looks like you have already done this so there may not be any need to add it to Express unless you need to connect it to a new WiFi network.

    If you do need add it to Express and it won't pair, try the steps in the FAQ Issues syncing ANT Fitness devices with Garmin Express

    You can also set it up using Garmin Connect Mobile. There are instructions here: https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/start/index-scale

    Once the wifi is set up on the device, the index scale should automatically update after a successful sync. The download should begin 10 minutes after the successful sync so it is best to weigh yourself and then just let the scale sit. If it still does not update, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.
