so many missing addresses Garmin 2598 software v: 5.30, map 2017.20

So since I've updated my Garmin 2598LMT HD to the latest maps, I've lost so many addresses and locations that were searchable in the previous maps. I use my Garmin for work so it's been so disappointing. Is there a way to roll back to the previous maps? I've had to start using my phone for GPS navigation since my Garmin has been neutered.

I tried to redownload the maps and still the same problems. No error messages. But still many addresses can't be found anymore. Addresses that were previously searchable.
  • Which map? Can you give an example of an address that isn't working so I can check it?

If you're getting this issue after an update you may need to master reset your device.

here's a small sample of addresses:

    12116 beach blvd. stanton, ca
1203 N. Euclid St. Anaheim, CA
8303 garden grove blvd. garden grove, ca
10130 garden grove blvd. garden grove, ca
    3745 alton pkwy irvine, ca

it's hard to remember all the missing addresses because the recent history only shows finds. and I need to be in the car to map addresses.
  • Some one on another forum had a similar problem and was told by Garmin that it's an issue with the latest map.

Did you back up your previous maps? If so just copy them back.

I didn't even know there was an option to back up the maps. :(

All 3 of my Garmin devices are now ruined. At least 20% of addresses I used to go to are now gone (I would even say that it could be as high as 40%). If an address is like 8302 and not found, I have to map to 8301 and then remember to think that the location is on the other side of the street. I've been using my phone a lot more lately as a result. I can't recommend Garmin any more if this is the direction their maps are going.
  • Well its not intentional and should be corrected in the next map update. Try calling Garmin support, they may be able to resolve this for you.

Not much use for you now but there are a number of ways to keep map backups. You can copy the map files to your PC, this means the large .img file and the corresponding .unl and .gma files. You can also add the map to your PC for BaseCamp to use. This allows you to use BaseCamp to reinstall the map.

Same here in the Montreal QC area. I reported the map errors.

I'll see if customer support can help on Monday (at least get the previous map, or the one that was on the unit when I purchased it).
In the mean time, I added 2 open source maps to my SD card to compensate.
Next time, I will save the current map (provided it's good) before upgrading.

Can you provide instructions on how to add open source maps? I'm desperate to make my Garmin devices useful again.
  • OSM maps don't have full address search so are unlikely to solve the issues you're having, but you can get them to try at http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

Here's another open source map resource: https://www.openmapchest.org/

Agree the open source maps don't have full search capabilities. Since most addresses I cannot find in 2017.20 date back many years (5 at least), works for me.

Thanks for this tip on map backups. I will use it in the future. I didn't properly thank you earlier because I got busy but thanks! :D

I'm also frustrated by the current situation which played a role.
