XP and Garmin Drivelux Express

Hello,

I am new here and just bought Garmin Drivelux.

I would like to update the map with Garmin Express, but I am working with XP. I saw it is possible with an other program from Garmin, but this is not working.

Is it possible to download the map and put this directly in the file of the Garmin system?

Thank you for your help!

I am sorry you are having trouble updating your Garmin Driveluxe 50LMTHD. Unfortunately, to update this device you will need to use Garmin Express. If your computer does not meet the minimum requirements you will need to locate another computer you can use such as a friend's or family member's. You can find the "System Requirements" on the ">Garmin Express">Garmin Express page.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • Garmin Express v3 (if you can get it) should do the trick for you. I use v3.2.29 on my Windows XP (for managing / updating nuvi3590 as we as recently purchased nuviCAM) and except that it can be temperamental at times it eventually does the job.

I thank you for your suggestion, but I do feel a couple of things need mentioning:
    • First, I am not sure now much longer Garmin Express version 3 will connect to our servers. As we update them for the current version, some of our older versions have difficulty connecting to the servers.
    • Garmin Express version 3 is no longer developed. So if you have trouble, we're limited on the support we can provide for it.
    • The nuvi 3590 and the nuviCam were on the market while version 3 was either still used or we had just switched to version 4. The Driveluxe 50LMTHD is part of the new "Drive" series that will be replacing the "nuvi" series. It released way after we stopped developing version 3. Garmin cannot guarantee the device will work with version 3 even if JSG2016 locates a copy.

I'm not saying this isn't an option (if you can find a download). However, we don't recommend it because we can't support it well.

  • Hey Dave,

    Thanks for your e-mail

Will you be able to find out and let us know please as if (when?) it happens?

But... Without being too nosey: why such incompatibility should suddenly be the case though? My Edge 705 is now 8 years old and still works / is compatible with v3 Garmin Express?

Garmin Express version 3 is no longer developed. So if you have trouble, we're limited on the support we can provide for it.

I think I'm fine at the moment but will take the above into consideration.

The nuvi 3590 and the nuviCam were on the market while version 3 was either still used or we had just switched to version 4.

But it does not mean that both nuvi 3590 and the nuviCam will become suddenly unsupported? I appreciate the former being 4 years old already (and going strong and fully expect this for another four years at least), but the latter is not even one year old yet?

It's not about device support. It's about support for Windows XP. New versions of Express support older devices but do not support Windows XP. The issue of support for very new devices like your Drivelux is most easily solved by upgrading Windows. Then you can run a version of Express that supports both your old and new devices.
