PC doesn't see Garmin Nuvi 54LM

Hi everyone,

I've bought a Nuvi 54LM a while ago, updated it after unboxing and it went fine. Then it spent 12 months in the drawer and now I cannot connect it to the PC let alone update it. I'm using the same PC but I think I've reinstalled and upgraded to windows 10 in that time.

The problem is that once I plug in the nav, the PC doesn't notice. The nav switches to "connected to computer mode" for about a minute and then starts up in navigation mode.

The PC doesn't notice the nav, no mass storage device. I've tried garmin express and the communicator plug in but they do not see the nav. USB drivers were installed.

Anything I'm missing here?

If it was working before but not since you've updated to Win10, then I suspect you're using Edge as your browser, so first thing I would try is to use IE11 and then see if Garmin Communicator Plugin sees your device. Then if it does your other issues can be discussed.

I've tried IE but no luck. I've tried it on an old laptop with win7 and no luck either.

I've also tried the following from the FAQ's:
- different USB leads (data lead),
- unplug all other usb,
- IE, Chrome,

Unfortunately, the results are always the same:
- plug in nav,
- nav goes into communication mode,
- PC doesn't notice,
- communicator can't find device,
- after 30 seconds nav exits communication mode and starts in navigation mode...

Is there any way I could put an update on a memory card and update the nav via its memory card slot?

Well you could add an updated map to the card but not software updates.

Just a thought as no system seems to see your device and the fact you haven't used it for a while you might do a full recharge of the battery then try again.
