Dezl 560LMT GarminDevice.Xml Required

Former Member
Former Member
Hi guys...

Wiped the filesystem on my Dezl 560 LMT and now my computer does not recognize the device.
Is there any way I can get the file for my system or can anyone provide a backup..

I have tried another GarminDevice.Xml but when i copy it to the garmin folder, the computer recognizes it as a Nuvi???
So i believe that there must be a specific GarminDevice.Xml for my device.

Many thanks
  • The xml file is specific to your device, and it should recreate it when you power cycle it. Ensure you switch it off completely, rather than simply place it into stand by.

Yea i've tried that but its not working...
I wiped all the data from the mass storage device and now its not detected by the PC.

Whats more, I can only detect the device when using GarminCURE and patched firmware but when the original firmware is installed I have the same problem with no detection??

I'm not sure what to do now :(
  • If your device isn't recreating the xml file then you'll need to contact Product Support.

Dezl 560LMT ... xml Part Number Required

    Hello...

Does anyone have the Part Number from the garmindevice.xml for the Garmin Dezl 560LMT.
I need to reinstall my device but i have the wrong part number and it thinks it a Nuvi LOL

I lost the xml file from my device so i am playing around trying to get it working again.

I have tried the power cycle method but this is not working to recreate the file.

    Thanks
  • I've merged the post above with your original thread as having two covering the same topic is confusing.

As posted above you need to contact Product Support if your device isn't creating its own xml file. They are device specific so trying to use someone elses won't help you.

Have you tried a master reset? In case you haven't I found this:

    Master reset on dezl series
1.Start with the device off and unplugged from power◦On the dezl 760: to verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device
2.Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
3.Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the device ON
4.Release the power button when the device powers ON.You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
5.Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
    6.Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.
Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device.

I am sorry that you cannot get the computer to read your device as a dezi 560LMT. You really don't want to use another device's "GarminDevice.xml" file because it can cause more issues (though they are fixable).

I think the problem may be caused because you're using a program called GarminCURE (probably GarminCURE3). I looked up where it was posted by its creator and it is used to flash firmware. This is more risky than just formatting a device and really should never be used. Loading the wrong firmware can permanently damage a device. We need more information about the issue before we advise you. Please answer the following:
    • How did you wipe the file system (what process did you do)?
    • When not connected to a computer, can you power on the device?
      • If so, does it load completely and show "Where To?" and "View Map"?

    • While the device is plugged into the computer, does it show as a mass storage drive you can access?
    • If you connect it to the computer and can look at its properties, what is its "File System"?
    • Have you tried the Master Reset already mentioned?
    • What is the serial number from the back of the device?

Hopefully, when we know more about what was done, we can help you correct the problem.

    Hi Dave...

    OK, here is the story.
I had just updated my Dezl 560LMT to the latest maps and software and all was fine... After I formatted what i thought was the SD Card in my laptop with a tool called SD Formatter... Unfortunately it was the Storage Area of the Dezl that i formatted.

Since then, the device has not been able to connect to my PC via USB however the device does boot to the Where To and View Map screen but there are no maps, language files, voices or anything else... Its just the software and thats it.

I used Cure to create a patched firmware for the Dezl 560.. The patched firmware does not boot the device but I can access the mass storage area and Garmin WebUpdater can see the device when I load a FAKE GarminDevice.xml in to the garmin folder.

I hope that you understand the story... Here is some answers to your questions...

When not connected to a computer, can you power on the device? YES
If so, does it load completely and show "Where To?" and "View Map"? YES

While the device is plugged into the computer, does it show as a mass storage drive you can access? Only with a patched Firmware via Cure
If you connect it to the computer and can look at its properties, what is its "File System"? Again only via CURE... Its FAT32... No Files or Directories

Have you tried the Master Reset already mentioned? YES

What is the serial number from the back of the device? 2TR026061

Hope this info helps.... I miss my Dezl :(

Thank you for replying to my questions. I looked up "SD Formatter" and found it formats every part of a "Mass Storage" device including the protected areas. There is a portion of the memory that you should never be able to touch (even with a standard format) but this program wipes it. Loading a "GarminDevice.xml" from another device may let you download part of the missing files, but it will not fix the portion that normally can't be deleted. If this program has formatted the drive, unfortunately the only solution we have available is to replace the device.

Please call ">Product Support">Product Support to see what options are available for getting this replaced.
