Garmin Nuvi 2495 LM Update Problems

Wanted to update to newest map, tried to do so, and was informed insufficient memory existed. Given option to install a smaller region (which I did) - Canada and adjacent states.

Then got an SD card (32 GB), which Amazon had listed as the largest usable with the 2495. Installed SD card, and was unable to switch back to most update North American maps. Also noticed that Garmin Express does not seem to recognize the card.

Have since installed the current version of Express on my PC, and deleted un-needed language files on the device. Still no luck.

Have seen in the Express help instructions that to Change Map Regions requires the current map be up to date before that option is enabled on the device. And have repeatedly tried to do so through Express. It simply begins the download, and gets hung up with 58 minutes to go. And all I seem to be able to do is to reboot my PC and try the same thing again.

Any thoughts on how to get the SD card to work and how to get current updated North American maps installed will be appreciated.
  • Having installed a new version of Express try deleting then re-adding your device to Express.

Note you get no indication in Express that it has seen your sd card but it will use it if required. You may also find this FAQ helpful

If removing and adding the device does not solve the problem, you can also follow the steps in the FAQ What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

If this does not solve the problem, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.

    Problem Solved!

Turns out the USB port on the front of my desktop wasn't enabling data transfer. Worked this out by going into Windows Task Manager >> Performance >> Resource Monitor and noting that no disk data transfer was occuring when Express was stuck at Step 1 of 2: Updating Maps, Transferring Files, 50% complete at 0 Kb/s data transfer rate.

From there, I simply rebooted my machine, reconnected to a better USB port (back of the desktop), and Voila!
