Purchased maps not appearing in Garmin Express/not able to download

Hi. Purchased City Navigation Europe - UK & Ireland. I followed all the instructions, downloaded Garmin Express, downloaded a Garmin Communicator Plugin (which from all the forum postings it looks like I shouldn't need if using Garmin Express?). I hit download - it downloads and then says download complete. Then nothing appears in Garmin Express or on the device.

Having tried a variety of different things including restarting/uninstalling etc, its now asking me to install a plugin and then saying that my brower isn't compatable - am running IE 11 on Windows 10, but have also tried downloading in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. None of these work. So now I can't even get it to download from the Garmin site because it keeps popping up a message saying browser/system is incompatible. I've spend hours trying to do troubleshoot this - the device has enough memory space for the maps (nuvi 1350), have found this the most un-user friendly experience.:mad::mad::mad:
  • What exactly have you purchased? What maps were originally installed on your device? Mostly this sort of error is because a map update has been purchased and not the map?

The device has NZ & Australian maps already installed on it. I then purchased the City Navigator® Europe NT: U.K. and Ireland maps, it didn't say anywhere on the page that it was merely an update, I've doubled checked. It cost NZ$124 - surely that's a high price for just an update?!

Also now when I go to download page I get:

"We're sorry. Your web browser, Internet Explorer v11.0 (trident v7.0) 32bit on Microsoft Windows 10 64bit, is not configured to support map downloads.

We can help you adjust your browser security settings to add my.garmin.com as a trusted site. This will allow you to download your map. Instructions for Adding a Trusted Site"

I've done this and it still doesn't work.

    Can't dowload purchased maps

I have the same issue. Bought a new GPSMAPS 64S and installed basecamp, and purchased TOPO 23K maps for Alaska. I'm running Windows 10 with Edge, Chrome and Firefox. I've installed Garmin express, several garmin plugins and opened my firewall. Basecamp and Express cannot see the new maps, even though I see them on My.garmin.com. When I try to download with any browser (Chrome, Edge or firefox), I get, "plugin not supported." I have room on the GPS device and have also installed a micro SD card. I'm offered an IE direct connect, but it displays the same problem. I have about 8 hours into trying to download maps that I cannot use. SO if you have any fixes, please share. Thanks!

    Problem solved not sure how!

It's frustrating isn't it. I actually went around to my parents house and used their computer - they're also Windows 10 with Internet Explorer 11. All the same issues in regards to it asking for the plugin, but this time for some reason it worked in that the maps are now on the device. BUT they are not appearing in Garmin Express, so you could be mistaken for thinking they're not there. I have no idea why it worked on exactly the same set up in regards to downloading. I wouldn't trust Garmin Express - it doesn't seem to reflect what's actually been downloaded to the device. Good luck - you have my sympathies, it's wasted about 11 hours of my time trying to sort!

It would be nice if Garmin could clarify it the Communicator plugin is still needed or not. And if it isn't then they need to smarten up their act online and stop their site from requesting that you download it and simplify their user experience/interface.
  • @ NZKen Glad you resolved what appears to be a PC issue your end. Express doesn't see the map you're talking about as Express is for updating maps and software and downloaded supplemental maps aren't updateable. For downloadable maps the plug-in is still currently required, but since more and more browsers are withdrawing support for all NPAPI plug-ins (not just Garmin ones) over security concerns Garmin will be introducing a new system some time in the future.

BaseCamp won't see the map as downloadable maps aren't useable in BaseCamp unless the device to which they're downloaded is plugged in, or alternative steps are taken. Express as posted above is for updating maps, so also won't see the topo map as it's not an update. Click on this link to ensure your plug in is installed correctly and can see your device

If it doesn't try running through this FAQ

I am sorry you are having trouble downloading TOPO 24K maps for Alaska. SUSSAMB has provided some good information in the previous replies. If you haven't, definitely check out the FAQs posted.

You will only see downloadable content maps in your myGarmin account to download. Garmin Express only shows updates for maps pre-loaded on a device. To download the maps, you must install the Garmin Communicator Plugin (as SUSSAMB mentioned) and you need to use Internet Explorer (IE). If you do not see a link for IE, you can find it by searching. Please try these steps:
    • In the search field in the lower left of your computer's screen, type in internet explorer. (In Windows 8, instead press the "Windows" key and then start typing.)
    • You will see the icon for IE. Right-click on it.
    • Select either "Pin to Start" or "Pin to Taskbar". An IE icon will now show up on the one you choose.
Now, we need to make sure the Garmin Communicator Plugin is installed. You can use the link already provided or you can use the direct link for Windows here.

If you get the pop-up message, "We're sorry. Your web browser, Internet Explorer v11.0 (trident v7.0) 32bit on Microsoft Windows 10 64bit, is not configured to support map downloads." there is a check box at the bottom of that message. If you do not check it, the pop-up will continue to show even if you have corrected the issue. Please do the following:
    • Put a check in the box before you close the pop-up.
    • To add Garmin to the Trusted Sites, please use the FAQ, "">Why is Garmin Connect getting stuck when loading certain pages?">Why is Garmin Connect getting stuck when loading certain pages?"

Now, please start the map download from the "myMaps" tab in myGarmin.

Let us know if you still have trouble.
