Garmin Express and Windows 10

Former Member
Former Member
Recently, I have upgraded my laptop to Windows 10.
After this changes, i have reinstalled the Garmin Apps (BaseCamp and Garmin Express)
My Garmin Navy is a BMW Navygator V.

When I start Garmin Express, all is working fine (i can see my navy and i'm able to update this -including a Map reinstallation-) but the option for reinstall the map on the computer doesn't appears; the only possible choice is the reinstallation of the maps on the Navy.
Obviously, cause i have a fresh installation of BaseCamp and no "local maps installed", i need to connect the navy to work properly with BaseCamp.

Could someone help me in this point???
What is the right way to install maps for BaseCamp if Garmin Express is not working fine???
  • I believe that unless you've updated that device using that PC you won't be able to simply download the map. Reinstall the map to your device using Express then you should find that Map Options in Express will allow you to download to your PC.

This was the first thing i done yesterday (a map reinstallation on the device) and the option doesn't appears... :(
  • Have you tried removing then re-adding the device to Express?

    Yes and nothing.

in addition, i have installed express on another computer with Windows 10 and the same issue.....
  • You do have lifetime maps I assume?

If you still have access to your old PC you could always use JaVaWa's GMTK program to copy the files across.

I am sorry that you are having trouble installing your maps to your computer. We are aware that this option is missing in the latest version of Garmin Express and are working to resolve this issue. In the meantime, you should be able to manually install the maps to your computer by following these instructions:
    • Close BaseCamp if it is open
    • Press the Windows key + R
    • Type %programdata% and click OK
    • Open Garmin>CoreService>Downloads>Map>Map_Map.EU.2017.10>RMU>EU>2017.10>2d58df77-3241-459d-9289-df5918016842>IMG
    • Right-click the City Navigator Europe NTU 2017.10.gmap folder
    • Click Copy
    • Click the Back button until you are back to the Garmin folder or repeat steps 2 & 3 and then open the Garmin folder
    • Right-click on the Maps folder
    • Click Paste

Once the copy completes, the map should display in BaseCamp. If you would like to uninstall this map in the future, the City Navigator Europe NTU 2017.10.gmap folder will need to be deleted from the Maps folder rather than uninstalling it from Programs & Features.

I have followed this procedure and the maps remains not-installed (not listed)

Do you have any idea about a new release of garmin express?

I am sorry you are having trouble installing maps to your computer. We are not provided details about the future release of our programs. So unfortunately, we don't know when or if this issue will be addressed in a new version of Garmin Express. If you want, you can wait for the next release to see if the problem is resolved. If you need them installed soon, please call ">Product Support">Product Support for help getting them installed.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this issue has caused. Let us know if you need further assistance.

I had the very same problem but have solved it. Firstly, I updated Garmin Express and rebooted the W10 laptop, then I downloaded the new map into my laptop (only). Two other pieces of software were also dowloaded, BaseCamp and Map Installer. I then used the Map Installer to put the map into the Garmin 2568. It took time but seems to have worked OK.
  • While you will have the map you won't have all the associated files, like junction view. You'll only get that if you install via Express.
