Garmin express won't add edge 1000 as a device

Hi, downloaded garmin express yesterday and when I tried to put my garmin edge 1000 as a device it would not add it, saying the device cannot be found.

The garmin charges when plugged in through usb, but does not show that its connected into the laptop when looking onto my computer and seeing the drives added in, tried master resets, restarted computer, and tried different usb ports

Any help?

Already tried that, computer doesnt recognise the device... But I'm able to download maps onto device manually

I am sorry you are having trouble getting the computer to detect your Edge 1000. I am confused by the statement, "Already tried that, computer doesnt recognise the device... But I'm able to download maps onto device manually". I am not sure how you are downloading maps if you cannot get the computer to find the device. Can you please explain what you mean by this statement if the rest of this post doesn't fix the issue?

We should be able to verify if the device is detected at all by the computer. Please try the following:

Press the Windows key + "R" to open a "Run" command. (The windows key is two keys left of the spacebar.)
Type in devmgmt.msc and press "Enter".
In the "Device Manager", there should be an entry for the Garmin device. Usually it is under "Portable Devices".

If you cannot find the device in "Device Manager", please use the FAQ, "">Why doesn't my computer detect my device when it's in USB Mass Storage Mode?">Why doesn't my computer detect my device when it's in USB Mass Storage Mode?"

Computer will not detect the garmin, but if i download a gpx file from strava it allows me to drop in the map on the garmin connect website.. The garmin charges when connected to the laptop, but the laptop does not appear as a device, which is why I don't understand why it will work by dropping a map in but garmin express cant find it as a mass storage device, the USB cable was new and unused out of the box

That's a rather confusing post.

What do you mean by dropping a map in? What do you mean by the laptop doesn't appear as a device?

You really need to be more accurate and detailed in your statements if folks are to help you.

I suspect your best bet if you can't explain exactly what is happening is to phone Product Support
