Forerunner 305 - longer activities not syncing properly

Hello all,

Sorry if this has been asked before - I have read back a few pages just in case.

I have a Forerunner 305, which works fine. However, I've noticed that if I use Garmin Express to sync activities that are much longer than an hour, when I then check in Garmin Connect, only a very basic amount of information has been transferred (basically - total distance, time, pace and splits). It seems to not be syncing the GPS data at all (so I get no map, and the graphs for elevation/pace against time are missing).

If I check on the watch itself, you can view all the relevant data (including the map - or whatever it's called, the visual "plot" of the route taken).

As I say, a 30 to 45 minute run seems to work just fine. It's when you go beyond say 1 hour 10 minutes that it doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas what is going on here? Is there a setting I've missed somewhere? Or is indeed there some sort of limitation that applies to longer activities? I've only recently started running for this long, so I have no idea whether its a new problem :)

Thanks,

Steve.
  • This happens to me and my 305 more often than I care to admit. What I find is that, if I don't delete historical activities before syncing, I get exactly what you describe. So what I do is delete old activities prior to recording a new one.

I also find that the clip is a little too loose and if I don't attach the watch properly, it falls off and corrupts the GPS data.

What I do is attach the 305 to clip with the USB cable unattached.
Then I put a clamp on the watch to ensure it remains secure.
Then I attach the usb cable to the computer.

It makes the entire syncing process much more reliable for me.
