City Navigator - Unlock maps

After 1 hour trying to unlock a map I purchased a while back, several failed attempts to use the email contact in help, and 30 minutes looking for a write new post button on the forum, I stumbled around and found my way here

Using MapSource and City Navigator for many years - new lap top now - City Navigator files loaded - now need to unlock maps ONLY TO USE IN MAPSOURCE - DONT' WANT TO DOWNLOAD MAPS INTO A DEVICE. When I start the unlock from MapSource, it goes to a webpage and looks for a device - no more options. So, I connect my trusty, albeit very old, Rhino 530, and the page will not recognize it. I installed the latest everything into the laptop but nothing. Any suggestions?

Btw, the email support feature of the Garmin website does not work. Each time I fill the form and hit continue on the 3rd section, it just reloads the same page. Garmin is a pain to get things going although great when they are working.

How did you install the map files onto your PC for Mapsource to use? There is no need to have a device connected assuming you have installed the maps correctly.

You may need to use this http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html to ensure your new PC is able to use Mapsource correctly.

(incidentally I've just checked and the email support form is working for me)

The Unlock Online website requires that Garmin Communicator Plugin (GCP) be installed. In the upper right hand corner of this page, do you see the Plugin Status box? Does it show "Garmin Communicator Plugin is properly installed and up to date, version 4.2.0.0."

If not, then you need to install GCP in order to unlock your maps. Also, GCP will currently only work in Internet Explorer, so please make sure that is the browser you are using to unlock your maps.
