S20 Course Updates don't seem to apply

On an S20 with latest firmware and the current version of Garmin Express, it keeps saying there are three course updates. The updates look like they are applied, and at the end it says successful. However the next time it's plugged in, it saus there are still three course updates to apply, the same versions.

How can I get these to actually take effect? Or are they actually installed and Express doesn't see it?

I am sorry you are being offered course updates after going through the update process. The issue you describe may be caused if the courses are being installed in the wrong location. Please try the following:
    • With the device connected to the computer, press the Windows key + "E" to open "Computer"/"This PC".
    • Select the Garmin drive.
    • Open the "TEXT" folder.
    • If you see files in here that end in ".img",".gma", or ".unl":
      • Right-click on them and select "Cut". (This can be done one at a time or all at once if they are highlighted.)
      • Go back a folder and open the "Garmin" folder.
      • Right-click in this folder and select "Paste".
Now, the maps are in the correct location.

If Garmin Express still says there are updates available for the courses, please ignore this for now. A software update should release soon to correct this issue.

Got the new firmware today, didn't help.

I looked at the folder, there was no text folder in the root. There was an empty one in the garmin folder. The files were in the Garmin folder, and the IMG files had dates of late April. I even moved those to the computer and had Express reinstall them. It says it was complete, and the files are there but still says a course update is available. So it seems like it took, but the software doesn't see that these are the latest versions.

I am sorry that you are still having trouble updating your courses. I was going to check to see if your account shows that an updated has been completed but I don't see the S20 listed on your account. If you added it to express with another account you can log into the forums with that account and post to this thread so that I can check this out for you.

The S20 is actually listed under my account. Thanks.

I looked at your account and the updates were added correctly. It is most likely that something is stuck in Garmin Express. We can verify this by removing the device and re-adding it. Garmin Express will read the device again and will tell you if there is any update needed. Please use the FAQ, "How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?" and choose the middle option "Remove from Garmin Connect" when prompted. Then please add your device back to Garmin Express.

It should now say you are up to date. Let us know if it still says you have updates available.

Would deleting the S20 affect previously synched data? I don't want her to lose the historical data that was already uploaded.

Deleting the device from Garmin Connect will not remove any data that was previously uploaded. You would have to manually delete the data in Garmin Connect for it to be removed.

Ok, I deleted it. After I did that the drive came up as needing formatting. I rebootec the PC, the watch and saw there was an update to 4.1.21. It then showed up and reconnected. It then proceeded to say that there were map updates. I went ahead and let it apply them, disconnected/reconnected and it still said there were three updates.

At this point, this issue will require more in-depth troubleshooting than forums will allow so it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.
