Cannot install Garmin express 4.1.19 in Vista

Trying to install Garmin Express it stalls and gives me a 'Garmin Device Interaction Service' could not start. Check whether you have sufficient privileges to start services.' I have Vista SP2 (freshly installed after crash) and I am logged in with an Administrator account. GE was running without problems before. I tried repairing .NET 4.5.2 and starting the Garmin Service manually when it shos up under services.msc. I als tried to install older GE versions, with the same error message.

It is pretty frustrating. Does anyone have solution. thanks.

I am sorry that you are having trouble installing Garmin Express. There are a couple of things that you can try that may resolve the issue.

Delete the config folder from the computer if present:

    • 64-bit Windows: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Garmin_Ltd._or_its_subsid
    • 32-bit Windows: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Garmin_Ltd._or_its_subsid

Try installing .NET 4.6 (this often repairs issues with the .NET framework are missed by the .NET repair)

If it still doesn't work, you can try running a system file scan to repair any corrupt system files:
    • Click Start
    • Click All Programs
    • Click Accessories
    • Right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator
    • Type sfc /scannow and press enter

If you are still having trouble, you may need to use Express on a different computer.
