Garmin Forerunner 10 not recognized as connected by Garmin Express

I am having difficulty getting my Forerunner 10 to be recognized as connected. I connect and the computer recognizes that the device is connected and I can explore the files in the device and charge, but Garmin Express does not ever find the device to sync. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Express and it cannot find my device at all.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?

Thanks.

Typically this is an issue with the GarminDevice.xml file. There could be corruption on the memory that is causing this file to be incorrect. I recommend:

    • Run a check disk on the device: How do I run a check disk or disk utility on my Garmin mass storage device?
    • Delete the GarminDevice.xml file from the Garmin folder on the Forerunner 10
    • Power cycle the device so the file is recreated
    • Reconnect and try to add to Garmin Express again

If you continue to experience issues, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

Thank you Lisa. Your solution worked.

The only issue was it removed my runs that were not synced but that is minor.

    Thank you again.

Good to hear that the issue is resolved. The missing files must have been removed when chkdsk was ran as they were corrupted. You can check to see if the files are still in the Pending Sync folder on the computer. If they are, there are other places on this forum for correcting .fit files that may help you. The file location is in this FAQ:

How do I remove FIT files that fail to sync in Garmin Express from my computer?

I'll close this thread since the device has been added to Express now.
