Former Member
Former Member
I have tried to syc (update apps) through GE today at (UTC +3hr) 10:00 13:00 and 13:40 I get sync error - we are having problems with our servers.
Yet https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status reports no issues.

Anyone else havin sync problems (Windows 8.1 GE 4.1.19.0)
  • This is from the FAQs

f Garmin Express displays the error message We are unable to add this device because our servers are unavailable at this time or Sorry, we're having a problem with communicating with our servers, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
•Ensure that Garmin Express is up to date
Update Garmin Express to the current version using the instructions in the FAQ How do I update Garmin Express?
    •Internet Connection
Ensure the Internet connection meets the system requirements for Garmin Express. A high-speed Internet connection is required. Garmin Express is not intended to be used with mobile broadband (such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, or dial-up Internet connections.
    •Computer Date and Time Settings
Incorrect date and time settings on the computer can cause communication errors between Garmin Express and the Garmin servers. To adjust the date and time settings, use the instructions in the FAQ How do I verify that the time, date, and time zone settings are correct on my computer?
    •Internet Security/Firewall
Security programs can affect the communication between a computer and the Garmin servers. It may be necessary to disable any and all security programs to allow Garmin Express to communicate. Refer to the instructions provided by the application publisher to disable any security programs installed to the computer.
    •Proxy/LAN Settings
Incorrectly configured proxy and/or LAN settings may affect the connection between the Internet and Garmin Express.
    Windows:

    • Press the Windows key on the keyboard
    • Type Internet Options
    • Click Internet Options
    • Click the Connections tab
    • Click LAN Settings
    • Select the box "Automatically detect settings"
    • Clear any boxes for use of a proxy server
    • Click OK, then OK again

    Mac OS X:

    • Click the Apple icon
    • Click System Preferences
    • Click Network
    • Click Ethernet
    • Click the Advanced button
    • Click the Proxies tab
    • Select the box "Auto Proxy Discovery"
    • Click OK

Garmin Express should now be able to connect to the server.
  • I have sane problem - 'can't connect to servers' message.

Was all working fine earlier in the week.

I tried the suggestions above but no joy.

    Anyone able to help?

    Many thanks

    Thanks...but didn't help

If I was not clear, GE worked a week ago. Just stopped working.

    GE is up to date

Internet is 10/100 mb/sec ethernet...so no issues there

    Time and date are correct

Firewall - this might be the case but I have no idea how do check this (however it would mean that mcaffe and webroot have suddenly started denying GE)

LAN/PROXY (again, I have done nothing with my computer so this should not be a issuw) but In win 8.1 your instructions do not work.
Pressing windows key brings up "Metro" view and writing in the metro search bar "internet options" opes only optins for internet browser.. I do not find anything on LAN/PROXY

The odd thing is, the failure conserns updating a watchface (SC8) and a widget (Emergency information) . My workouts seem to update and I can edit pre-installed apps.

If the errors are only happening when trying to update the watchface and widget, then you need to contact the manufacturers of that content for assistance.

Please provide more detailed information. What device do you have? What version of Windows are you running? When are you getting the server error exactly, uploading or downloading? Has the device been added to Garmin Express already? If so, have you tried removing the device and adding it back? If it is a Fitness device, the instructions to do so are in the following FAQ and I recommend removing it from Express and Connect. If it is not a fitness device, the same instructions apply but you would skip the part about removing from Connect.

How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

Once we know more about your experience, we can provide further assistance or it may be quicker to call Product Support by phone.

    Hi Lisa,

I have Fenix 3 and Win 8.1. I can upload running stats via WiFi but when I try to sync via GE "Refresh to check for updates" I receive "Sorry, we're having problems connecting with our servers". All was working fine until the middle of the week. GE has been reinstalled - same message. Device has been removed and re added - same message.

I do have two apps installed but when I select "Manage Apps" I GE displays a dialogue box "Sever error. We're having trouble communicating with our servers" and then asks me to "try again" or "Cancel".

Many thanks for the swift response.

  • Problem Solved

Unbeknownst to me, my broadband went down during the night and reset the settings on my firewall(!) so that GE was blocked.

I have allowed the programme now and all works at it should.
