ETREX touch 35 and GARMIN EXPRESS

Hi,

I'm in France and purchased my Etrex touch 35 2 weeks ago. In France it comes with Topo Active Maps installed for West and East Europe. France is on the West Map.
It worked very well until I downloaded GARMIN EXPRESS two days ago ... When I launched it, it recognized my Etrex 35 and proposed immediately map updates for Topo Active West and Topo active East, so I launched it and it seemed to work. The next day GARMIN EXPRESS proposed again an update for those same maps, which was strange, but why not ...
The problem is that now I only have Topo Active EAST V3 on my GPS and the Topo Active WEST V3 has disappeared (unfortunately the one I need to use in France !).

When I launch again GARMIN EXPRESS, it still proposes to UPDATE the Topo Active WEST V3, but it doesn't work and I get immediately an error message in red at the top (error during update).
The Topo Active EAST V3 is considered as being up to date and I can launch the reinstall of it as many times as i want which works well.

When I launch basecamp I have on my Etrex 35 now 2 releases of the Topo Active EAST (V3 is on gmapprom.img and old V2 is on gmapprom1.img).

So my analysis is the following one : when I bought my Etrex, it came with Topo Active West on gmapprom.img and Topo Active East on gmapprom1.img, but GARMIN EXPRESS installed the new release of Topo Active East on gmapprom.img, and Topo Active East old release remained on gmapprom1.img ...
Instead of that GARMIN EXPRESS should copy the new WEST on gmapprom.img and the new EAST on gmapprom1.img, which is not the case and doesn't work.

I can't reinstall the WEST part (not proposed by GARMIN EXPRESS), and when I relaunch the reinstall of EAST it replaces every time the gmapprom.img file.

Can GARMIN EXPRESS be configured again to match the real Etrex 35 configuration for Europe ?

I really need help !

    Hi,

I had them on the phone again today (my 3rd call), they said that they are fixing the issue and that the server team does its best, but they can't provide any schedule for this, so I still don't know when I will be able again to use my GPS.
So for the moment, no map, my GPS is useless !
As it's brand new, I'm thinking about sending it back to amazon and get another one (and this time save my maps on pc and no updates ... ) !

Maybe the GARMIN express Customer Care on this forum can give us some news about this issue and by when it will be fixed ??
  • This issue is under review and being actively worked to get it resolved. We will update this post when a resolution is available. Unfortunately, we have no ETA at this time.

  • As these are simply OSM maps and therefore a .img file could those here having issues not simply be sent a one time download link so they can replace their missing map? Would resolve their issue until the permanent fix is in place.

yep, could be a nice move coming from Garmin :)

Unfortunately, these are not just Open Street Maps. They are customized and require a license to unlock them in order to make them work. As such, there is no direct download link for them. It has to be done through the normal process. I assure you we are actively working on fixing the issue.

We thank you for your patience.

    Hi all,

OK, I'll wait then for this update.
In the meantime I found a free France map to download for my next outdoor activities.
There are other European countries available (for those who might be interested) at this german site : http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de

    It works again !!!

    Hi all,

Everything is ok and running fine now, a new software update V3.20 has been provided and WEST MAP installation ran fine.

    The steps :
    - first update your GPS software to V3.20 using webupdater and then reboot your GPS
    - then go to GARMIN express and launch the Western map update

Thanks a lot GARMIN for reactivity on this tough issue !!!
