Lifetime update with purchased maps

Hi!

I'm quite confused about my garmin lifetime update. I have garmin zumo 350 with western europe maps (preloaded) and lifetime update (was included to my device already when I bought my zumo from the shop).

I'd like to buy eastern europe maps. If I buy them as a download file (NOT SD card) would I be able to use my lifetime updates on eastern europe maps?

thanks!

The nuMaps Lifetime covers the region of maps that came preloaded to your device. If you purchase additional maps, it will not be covered under the nuMaps Lifetime subscription. Also, neither Downloadable Content (DLC) or maps purchased on SD cards are updatable. New content would need to be purchase if you would like a newer version later.

Thank you very much for clear reply!

So, is there any way to extend my subscription to additional maps? Can I buy eastern europe maps (as DLC) then, for example, buy lifetime subscription for eastern europe?
  • It is unfortunate that Garmin has removed the DVD format for purchasing additional maps. It used to be that maps purchased on DVD were update-able. But that option no longer seems to be available. I used to want a Garmin Montana and planned to add City Navigator maps and a Lifetime map subscription for auto navigation. But I have abandoned my plans to purchase a Montana since the update-able City Navigator maps are no longer available for it.

That sucks. So now the only way to get lifetime maps is to buy a device that comes with them?

I have seen DVD maps on ebay for garmin. Will it still work? (as updateable additional map)
  • If they are new/unopened they should work. They may not include the lifetime update option in which case you would need to purchase that separately.

Here is a bundle that will work for lifetime maps for sure. They also have an American web site.

  • If you want it, get it while you can. I suspect once existing shelf stock of the map DVD is gone, this option will be over.
  • I just checked on Garmin's web site, as I should have done before my first reply. The DVD product is still available directly from them, at least for City Navigator North America and Europe.

Once you have that you can purchase the NuLife Updates for it.

I looked at the link you posted about the DVD map versions. While it shows the DVD selection on the left, when you actually go into each item it only provides the option for "Download" or "microSD/SD Card". I wanted to clarify this to prevent people from accidentally buying something they don't want. We do not sell the DVDs anymore unfortunately.

If you do find a disc that has an unused Product Key, we should be able to still get them working.

  • Thanks Dave. So am I correct in assuming the only official way to acquire a lifetime updatable map product from Garmin now is to buy a new device with lifetime maps bundled??

Specifically, if I want to add a lifetime updatable version of City Navigator North America to my Garmin 600 (or any other Garmin navigation device that did not come with it) that option is no longer officially available from Garmin??
