Garmin Edge 800 not recognised by Express

My Garmin Edge 800 is no longer recognised by Garmin Express. It is also no longer recognised by / charged by external battery packs.

I recently bought a second Garmin Edge 800 and that one is recognised by Garmin Express without a problem. It is also immediately recognised by /charged by external battery packs. I am using exactly the same Garmin USB cables with both devices. I already performed a factory reset on the Garmin Edge 800 with the issue, but to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I am sorry you can't get your Edge 800 to be detected by the computer or Garmin Express. If the exact same model is working with the exact same cables, there is a problem with the interface of the device. You can try cleaning its USB port using the following methods:
    • Spray compressed air into the USB port on the device to remove any debris.
    • Use a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol (at least 90% by volume) to gently clean the USB port of the device.

Now, please see if the device can be detected correctly.

If cleaning the USB port does not resolve the issue, then the device will need to be repaired or replaced. Please contact ">Product Support">Product Support to find out about repairing the device.

Thanks Dave - I tried your suggestions, but no luck. The only difference I can see from the outside between the 2 units is that the one that works fine has 5 'pins' in the micro usb port and the one with the issue only has the 3 most right ones for some reason, with the 2 on the far left suddenly missing. Could this be the problem? If so, does it indeed need to be repaired?

The new and old Edge 800 should be identical. If some of the metal connector pins are missing from the old device, it will definitely cause a problem with the connection. Unfortunately, the old Edge 800 does need to be repaired/replaced if the USB port has missing pins.

Please contact ">Product Support">Product Support by phone if you are interested in setting up a repair.
