Garmin express failed to load updated map and deleted old one from eTrex 35t

I purchased a new eTrex Touch 35t at the weekend and only managed to hook it up to the computer on Tuesday evening. Since then it has updated the firmware twice (from 2.90 to 3.00 to 3.10) successfully. It has also twice prompted me to update the two maps installed: Garmin TOPO Active West Europe v3 and Garmin TOPO Active East Europe v3. It successfully did this on Tuesday evening.

Yesterday (Wednesday) when I plugged in the device is said it needed to update the maps again (and seemed to successfully install both) but later said it needed to update the West Europe map again. It now fails to install this map and shows the error as below. Unfortunately the map is now missing from the device also! I can reinstall the East map so connectivity to the device is correct, as is the internet connectivity. Has anyone any ideas how to reinstall the map manually? In the myGarmin web page it shows the map and the unlock code (from both East and West) but I cannot find a way of getting the map installed.

Thanks, Neil.

  • M0FSH,

I'm sorry about the issues you are having with the update. Please follow the instructions in this article to troubleshoot most issues with Express:

What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

I would also suggest removing the device from Garmin Express and adding it again to rebuild the profile for the device:

    • Select the device in Express
    • Click on Tools
    • Scroll down and click on Remove Device
    • Click Remove Device in the popup box
    • On the home page, click Add Device to add the device again

Try running the update again. Please let us know if you need any more assistance. You can also contact Product Support if you would like to troubleshoot this over the phone.

Thanks for pointers. I removed device under Tools in Garmin Express, re-added it and then tried to install maps again - and got the same error. There was an additional update on the timezone that installed correctly, but again the West Europe map failed.

I will call UK Support in the morning when the open for additional help unless you can suggest an alternative way of investigating.

    Neil.
