Garmin Nuvi 1200

Hi all, sorry for the short intro but I am looking for some help to solve my problem .

I have just updated the Garmin to version 6.30 and now the Garmin wont turn on, it just keeps flashing the start screen, the computer wont see it and now I am stuck as I cant get to do anything with it , I really need this to be working for a trip tomorrow... any idea on what is going on and how I get this unit working as it should, it all seems to have started to go wrong after the update....

Appreciate any help to resolve...
  • The fix for this type of problem is not easy and may not even be possible. Your best bet is to call Garmin Product Support, so you most likely will not have it for a trip tomorrow. If you really want to attempt a repair yourself, Google the term "GarminCure3".

    Thanks for the tip, the only issue is that the PC does not connect to the Garmin, so I don't see how that fix will work if I cant get into the Garmin unit
  • GarminCure3 provides a method for getting a non booting Garmin into mass storage mode so it can be connected to delete corrupt files (initiated by something called "preboot" mode ... do some more Googling). The GarminCure3 program can then be used to "reflash" the Garmin software. You would need to have a good backup in order to restore other files that may be missing.

    I said it wasn't easy.

    Note that Garmin does not have a forum for nuvi products, so the moderators will probably be along soon to close this thread. You may want to move the discussion to a different forum site.
  • Gonna let this ride as it appears an update via Express has done this. Not the first time and probably caused by Express saying download is complete but data not fully sent to device. I always do a safe eject and a couple of times Windows has reported device still in use. Perhaps the Express team could look at how it determines all is okay before saying download is complete?

    The resolution for this issue is in our FAQ:

    Why does my nuvi 1000 series device display the message "Loader Loading" during power up after an attempted software update?

    If that does not resolve the boot issue for your nuvi 1200, then the device will more than likely need to be replaced but you may want to contact Product Support by phone for further assistance before doing that.
