Activities fail to sync with Garmin Connect - Forerunner 610

Hi,
I haven't been able to sync/upload my data from my 610 for the past couple days. I get an "there was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" message. I've tried the following and have had no luck:

Trying to connect USB ANT+ Stick on different USB ports.
Trying to clean sync folder: %programdata%\garmin\coreservice\devices
Trying to upload activities manually from the watch

Will a master reset help, or what else can I do to upload to garmin connect?

I am sorry that recently you are unable to sync your data with Garmin Connect and I am happy to help. If the Forerunner 610 was syncing before but suddenly stopped, this most likely means some corrupt data is on the device. We may be able to solve this by removing the Activities that have already successfully uploaded from the device. Please use the process on page 28 of the ">Owner's Manual">Owner's Manual to remove all the Activities that previously uploaded from the device.

Now, please try to sync the device again with the data that failed to upload the last few days. If it still refuses to sync, we may need to do other steps like the Master Reset you asked about. Please contact ">Product Support">Product Support for more detailed troubleshooting.

    Hi Dave,
Deleting all previously uploaded activities did not work. Garmin Express says it has synced (even as it reports an error). Are the files somewhere on my computer, or elsewhere, but not showing up on connect?
  • I sold my 610 some months ago, but I remember that whenever I had problems with GE, deleting all Garmin services running on my Windows machine and restarting GE would solve the issues for me.

Since all the past activities that have already uploaded have been removed, do any of your other activities appear incorrect? Is there one that is all zeros or has no data? That could be a bad activity that is preventing the rest of the files from uploading. However if that is not the case, if the Forerunner 610 can create a .fit file out of the activity, it is sent to the computer to a Sync folder. The location is in this FAQ:

How do I remove FIT files that fail to sync in Garmin Express from my computer?

You can move this folder to your desktop and try to upload the files manually, if they are present. You will need to rename the files and add a .fit extension to the file name, no other naming changes would be necessary. The instructions to manually upload are in the following FAQ. You would migrate to the Sync folder on your desktop instead of a folder on the GPS device.

How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect?

If the Sync folder is empty, then the Forerunner 610 is unable to create a .fit file from your activities and they are most likely corrupted. If that is the case, you can try deleting the oldest activity, that may be the only one corrupted, then try to sync with Express again. You can keep doing that until all the activities are uploaded or deleted. Any activity left on the device should be deleted to prevent further corruption of your data.
