Since the latest update to V3.10, Garmin Express says all my files are up to date, however the G8 when connecting via WiFi keeps downloading and verifying a file under the category "other" then says a restart is required. After a restart, exactly the same thing happens again. Is there an update missing from Express on is there a problem on my device?
I am sorry the Approach G8 keeps receiving a file via WiFi. Most likely, this is the software update that you have already done. It probably did not delete itself from the computer and we just need to manually remove it. Please try these steps:
Press the Windows key + "R". (The Windows key is two keys to the left of the spacebar.)
Type in %programdata%\Garmin\CoreService and press "Enter".
Open the "Downloads" folder.
Delete the "Firmware" folder if there is one.
Go back one folder.
Open the "Devices" folder.
Open the "3908482759" folder. (This number is the Unit ID for the Approach G8.)
Delete the "Sync" folder if there is one.
Now, see if the issue is resolved. If you still have trouble, please contact Product Support by phone or email and we can provide additional troubleshooting for your issue.
I followed the instructions but it made no difference. I cannot see how the G8 directly connecting to the internet via WiFi can be affected by a file on my computer. The files it is downloading via WiFi to the ExtData folder are 006-D1053-60.bin, 006-D1053-64.bin, 006-D1053-69.bin and appear to be Japanese and other TTF Binary Data language files which I have no use for.
I also have a very large file in the WiFi folder that seems a leftover - 006-D2471-23.img.dltmp which is around 5 months old.
I am sorry you are still having WiFi issues. The ".bin" files you mention are the Chinese Font file (006-D1053-60), the Japanese Font file (006-D1053-64), and the Thai Font file (006-D1053-69). Those are not necessary, but none of them should cause the device to restart. The "006-D2471-23.img.dltmp" file is an old temporary copy of "CourseView Americas v4.80". It also should not cause the device to restart, but it should not be there either. Please delete it.
Normally if a device wants to restart, it is because it has an update to the main firmware still on it. The update is not getting removed after it is installed. Please try the following to see if this is the problem:
Connect the device to the computer.
Press the Windows key + "E" to view the drives.
Open the Garmin drive.
Open the "Garmin" folder.
If there is a file here called "GUPDATE.GCD", please delete it.
Disconnect the device and restart it.
Now, please see if the device powers up without restarting. If the issue still occurs, please contact ">Product Support">Product Support by phone to perform more detailed troubleshooting.
