Nuvi 2360LMT didn't update properly - now USB will charge but not connect.

I had problem with the latest lifetime map update via Garmin Express. It said it couldn't fit entire North American map on device, so to put in microSD card. Had trouble with the card, and had to cancel the update. When I turned on the unit it wouldn't show any maps. Now it will not connect via USB (only charges). Tried different cables, different USB ports, and 3 different computers, with no luck. Uninstalled Garmin Express and reinstall, still nothing.

Contacted Garmin Support, and after may tries (including hard resets and deleted all user data), they said I must have a bad USB port, and they no longer stock parts, so I'll have to buy a new unit. The only time it will try to connect to the device is during the 'hold the top left corner and power up, continue holding top left corner, and plug into USB port' - it says trying to connect to device sometimes but then says its unplugged as the Nuvi screen changes to the press the dots on the screen calibration.

It's like the USB connection software on the unit is corrupt / missing.

When it first boots up, it will ask to Select a Locale, but the list is blank.

Downloaded NA map from OpenMapChest onto SD card and the unit will show that map. This would be ok, but the unit consistently powers down after about 10 mins, and will not save any of the setting (kms vs miles). Imagine it needs a proper firmware update, but can't do that without a USB connection.

Can anyone help with any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I am sorry that you are having trouble with your nuvi. Keep in mind that this device has 2 USB ports which is often overlooked during troubleshooting. There is a mini USB port on the mount and a micro USB port on the bottom of the device. The port on the mount will only charge the device so make sure that you use the micro USB port. Other than that the steps that you have tried would indicate a hardware problem on the device and it would need to be replaced.

Thanks for your reply. I've updated the unit several times with the lifetime map updates, and of course using the micro USB Port. Being in the computer field for 34 years, what I can't understand is how a failed firmware or software update could suddenly cause a hardware error? Is there no way to load the firmware via the micro SD card following some special boot sequence? Is there any other way of checking the status of the USB port in the test screens?

Let me clarify what I meant: I know a failed firmware update can cause a hardware error, but I meant to say is I can't understand how it could cause a physical hardware failure (as in suddenly the USB port is bad).

Garmin devices have never been designed to update the system software/firmware using the micro SD/SD card. If this is a function you would like to see in the future, you can post it on the Garmin Have An Idea? website. This posts there are sent directly to our developers for consideration.

If the device is not detected by the computer, that is, not assigned a drive letter or shows as a portable device, then there are limits on what can be done. I recommend contacting Product Support by phone to see what options there are.
