Trouble accessing saved City Navigator on microSD in 78sc

First thing to check is that the card is formatted FAT32? How did you install the maps to the card? Which folder are they in? Have you looked to see if the maps are listed in Menu, Setup Map, Map Info? Are they selected?

What data are you talking about? How did you load that to the card? Which folder is it in?

OK, so I have a lot to learn and a lot of homework. This is my first gps so all of this is new to me. I tried the search function in the main forum page several times using lots of different language to find my answer but kept coming up with nothing.

Formatting an SD card is new to me but there are other chat strings on that one. I will explore how the files have been saved on the card. Seems like the download made it's own file. I purchased CityNavigator from the Garmin website and downloaded it straight onto the card. It came up as a download option once all of the other issues had been ironed out with Garmin support.

The other file is a set of tracks from another supplier that I would like to access using the gps. I also saved this file to the SD card. I'll check their website to see if they have any ideas as it was they that suggested using the 78sc.

If the map files downloaded from the Garmin website then they should be in the correct folder, but as I asked perhaps you could confirm which folder it is in? I don't have your device but I believe they should be in a folder named Garmin, are they? Have you looked, as I suggested, to see if they are listed in Map Info?

As for other files, tracks that you've acquired need to be in a folder named Garmin\GPX on your card. If such a folder doesn't exist you will need to create it.

The card was already formatted to FAT32 by default. The downloaded file is indeed called "Garmin". The other files are GPX formatted. They are not, however, listed in "Map Information" on the device. There's a "Worldwide DEM Basemap" and "US Marine Detail" plus several demo maps. I disabled the Marine and demo maps.

I have the sinking feeling that despite the almost one hour download, the file is not on the SD card. I can see (another gmapsupp file)and open the other tracks I saved from another source using EasyGPS when the card is inserted into my PC but they don't show up anywhere in the map menu when inserted into the 78sc.

I cannot find the huge downloaded file from Garmin on the SD card....I'm getting frustrated and need to step away for a while before I throw the whole thing against the wall.

They won't show in the map menu. They should show as I explained above.

I am sorry for the troubles. We should start by defining what you have done so far and what to do next. According to your myGarmin account you purchase a City Navigator North America NT downloadable content map and a subscription to the Birdseye US and Canada Topo maps. You were correct in downloading the City Navigator maps directly to the SD card. The Birdseye maps are downloaded and installed using a program called BaseCamp. Once the Birdseye maps are downloaded to BaseCamp, they can be copied to the SD card. I have included a couple FAQ's for working with the Birdseye maps below.

In regards to the tracks you downloaded to the SD card from another website. If they are actually track files then the file will most likely have the .GPX extension and should reside in the Garmin\GPX folder either on the SD card or the 78s internal memory. They are accessed through the Track Manager only. Please see the Owners Manual for information on working with .GPX files.

The City Navigator North America NT downloadable map is well over 2GB in size so even on a very fast home internet connection it can take an hour or more to complete. Since you received no errors in prior attempts you'll need to download the map again. Please review the FAQ article below to make sure you will not be affected by the most common types of issues.

I suggest you tackle the City Navigator download first since it is the most demanding. You were correct in selecting the SD card as the destination initially so nothing really needs to change in your next attempt. The existing files on the SD card should not cause a problem. Once the download is complete, check the Select Map Information screen on the 78s. The map will be listed as City Navigator North America NT. If it is not listed I suggest you contact Product Support by phone.
