Disable FW update, but keep other functionals of GE

How I can disable firmware update on Fenix 3 via Garmin Express(PC Windows), but keep synchronization and installed apps updated?
One method I know, how to avoid FW update and keep other synchronization via GE. After synchronization with GE(PC), but before USB disconnect, just delete new FW file gupdate.rgn from watch \GARMIN folder.
Anybody know other, not so "hacker's" method for disable FW update on Garmin Express?
Thanks.

Unfortunately there is no way to disable firmware updates in Garmin Express as it is designed to keep your devices up to date. The only way to get around this that I can think of is what you already mentioned. If you are only uploading activities (not steps, sleep, etc), you can also manually upload them rather than using Garmin Express.

  • Reference the information, what exactly does GE, Settings, Schedule, Update Schedule set to 'Never' do if it isn't to disable Device Updates which presumably is Firmware?

These settings are for downloading updates in the background when a device is not connected (mostly for map updates on the automotive devices). The settings have no affect on updates that are installed automatically during a sync to Garmin Connect. It is always best to install the latest version of software as there are often new features and/or bug fixes.
