Forerunner610 There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect

Hi All,

I do IT for a corporate company. One of the users asked me to look into this for him. He is trying to sync his activities from his Forerunner610 to Garmin Connect. I installed Garmin Express and updated to the latest version (4.1.16.0) and connected the Forerunner through an ANTStick. The Forerunner also updated to version 3.00 and rebooted the Forerunner. Garmin Express constantly shows this message: There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect.
I installed Garmin Express on my own machine and updated the application. It gives the same message. I tried a different connection, and also get the same message.
Could someone assist with this please?

I am sorry for the sync issue and would be happy to help. Please see the FAQ below to correct the majority of Sync errors. Since the 610 was still at an older sw version there is a good chance it hasn't synced with Garmin Connect in several years and it might serve you better to simply master reset it then add it back to Garmin Express.

    Master Reset:

    • Power off.
    • Press and hold Start/Stop , Lap , and Power/Light.
    • After first beep release Start/Stop.
    • After second beep, release Lap and Power/Light.

Add it back to Garmin Express on the end users computer and it should sync. The Master Reset wipes any past user data from it but it should sync future activities.

If you continue to have troubles please contact Product Support by phone.

Thanks Curt, I'll give that a go. How will I back up the activities on the Forerunner before wiping it?
  • JeanSolid

Unfortunately, that is the down side. Any activities on the device will be lost during the Master Reset. Use that as a last resort.

I noticed that this username JeanSolid is missing a Display Name in Connect which will cause an error in Express. With any account you use, verify the Connect Profile is not missing a Display Name. Login to https://connect.garmin.com/modern/ and provide a Display Name before you add the 610 to Garmin Express.

If you still have troubles after that use the suggestions in earlier post in order.

    Thanks Curt.
I am having a look at the sync issue on behalf of Andrew Jarvis. His Garmin Connect display name is mrjarvisandrews and he is signed in to Garmin Express. I will relay your messages. Thanks again.
  • JeanSolid

The account is OK. You'll have to use the FAQ suggestions to resolve the issue. On a device that hasn't successfully synced in almost two years you're almost certainly dealing with some corrupt data on the device.

    Logs

    Hi Curt,

Andrew insisted that I back up his activities before wiping the phone. I had a look on his PC which we were trying the sync on for the activity files and could not find any. He brought his laptop in and I found some files on there. I tried the sync on the laptop, which alos failed. I also came across some log files which I browsed through. The below grabbed my attention, and seems to relate to the sync issue.

He seems to be getting "Accepted ANTFS_HostChannel response: ANTFS.Response.DownloadCRCRejected" quite a lot. What would cause this?

    Thanks

    log continued

I found the below in another log, which does seem to confirm that there is a corruption, but how will I know which ones are corrupted and which one's aren't? He has about 500 activities in the folder, so I'd like to avoid trying to upload one at a time.

The "Accepted ANTFS_HostChannel response: ANTFS.Response.DownloadCRCRejected" error is due to the corrupted data that is on the device which Curt already suggested. The only way to get past this will be to delete all the activities from the Forerunner 610. The instructions to do so are in the Owner's Manual on page 28, here is a link:

    http://static.garmin.com/pumac/Forerunner_610_OM_EN.pdf

The corrupted files have been copied to the computer and are in the Sync folder which will need to be removed:

How do I remove FIT files that fail to sync in Garmin Express from my computer?

Now instead of deleting the files in the Sync folder, you can rename them, adding a .fit extension, and try to manually upload the activities to Garmin Connect. The manual upload is one file at a time and will be tedious but some of the files may not be corrupted and may upload with no error. The following FAQ gives instructions for the manual upload, you would just navigate to the Sync folder on the computer instead of the folder on the device. I recommend moving the Sync folder to the Desktop or some other more easily accessible location to try the manual upload.

Once the activities have been cleared from the Forerunner 610 and the computer, any new activities should upload with no error. However, if the upload fails again with the "Accepted ANTFS_HostChannel response: ANTFS.Response.DownloadCRCRejected" error, the device will more than likely need to be replaced and the owner should contact Product Support by phone to arrange for that.
