Map Updates not replacing exisitng

I have a nuvi 2597LMT plus an 8Gb sim card
I have Lifetime Europe maps as part of the device purchase and have since purchased a lifetime licence for North America.

I have a recurring problem with space which occurs after updating the maps.
After updating the European map today I had 87Mb Internal Storage free and just 763Mb on the sim card.
I was able to use MapInstall to do a customised reinstall of North America and by excluding large parts of North America I now have around 2Gb free on the sim card.

BaseCamp shows today’s European update has not replaced the one in Internal storage but installed onto the sim card.

So 2 questions:
How can I get the European update 2016.30 to replace the existing one located in the Internal Storage and not install to the sim card?
And how can I customise the update and exclude large areas of unwanted Europe? MapInstall doesn’t show the European map in its list.

Thanks.
  • MapInstall isn't a good solution as it only installs the map, and not junction view etc. That's fine for the US mapping as that won't have junction view anyway, but it will adversely affect the EU map.

The way I'd do it is to remove the card from your device and use Express to place the EU map onto your nuvi. If there isn't sufficient room you'll be given the option to select a smaller region or install a card. Since you seem happy to have a smaller region this shouldn't be an issue.

Then use MapInstall to install the US map to your card.

That sounds like a plan - I'll give it a go.
    Thank you.
