cannot send courses to 305

Hi,

I`ve been trying to download a course i mapped out using garmin connect to my forerunner 305 for the last couple of days with no success. However i also tried sending a workout which I used garmin connect to plan to my device which was downloaded fine. My activities are uploaded to garmin connect from my device with no problem. The last time I downloaded a course to my device was november 2015 and that worked fine. I have since tried to send the same course again and i get the message "Unable to send course to device. Please try again later." Can somebody advise please.
Thanks, Anthony.

Just tried the download to device on another computer and had the same result.

I am sorry that you are having trouble sending courses to your Forerunner 305. I tested the course that you have in your sync queue on my Forerunner 305 and it synced without any issues so the problem does not appear to be on the Garmin Connect side. I would recommend trying the steps in the FAQ What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?.

Also, if you have a lot of old activities on the device, you can try deleting them from the watch. It is possible there is not enough room on the device to store the course.

If these steps do not solve the problem, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.

    hi Jason,

    thanks for your response.

I`ve tried everything in on the link you posted in your reply. Also, i had deleted all the activities on my device.

Can you suggest anything else as i`d planned to do the run on Sunday and i would imagine i won`t be able to speak to somebody in support until Monday?

I don`t understand why workouts download without problem yet courses won`t which suggests the garmin express software is ok. Could it be an issue with the navigation side of the device?

    Thanks .

Have you tried sending any other courses to your device? If other courses send, you can try recreating the course. However, I am not sure how that would help since it worked on my 305. You can also try clearing the sync queue in Garmin Connect (Click the queue on the left side of Connect and click the X next to your course). Once it is clear, try syncing it again.

Also, make sure that you are plugging the device directly into the computer and avoid USB 3.0 ports. I did not suggest this before since the Workout transferred but the course file is also probably much larger than the workout.

I've tried all of your suggestions. I have also tried to transfer a course that I know worked a couple of months ago and I get the same message.

You mentioned that you deleted all the activities from the 305 earlier but did you delete any Courses from the device? I suggest you also check the location on the computer where the Course file is held by Express before being sent to the Forerunner 305. This location should be empty so delete anything in the folder then try sending the Course again.

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\UnitID of the Forerunner 305\Sync\Download

    1. Click Start or press Windows + R (Win 10)
    2. Type %programdata% in the text box
    3. Click OK
    4. Open each folder in the path above

Delete anything inside the Download folder then try to send the Course again from Garmin Connect. If this also fails, other than contacting Product Support by phone the final suggestion would be to make sure the Download folder and the Sync queue in Connect are empty then master reset the Forerunner 305 and try again.

    How do I perform a reset on my Forerunner 305, 205, 301, 201 or 101?https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={4315c510-5161-11dc-4ec8-000000000000}

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

    Hi Curt.

I`d deleted all my courses etc. That didn`t work. And following advice in another post i`d already cleared that file, again, with no success.

Just before I threw my watch at the wall in frustration I tried the reset option. The soft reset (lap/mode button for ten secs) didn`t work.

Hard reset (mode/power) DID work. :D.

As soon as it`d been set back up and connected to pc the course was sent with no problem.

    Thanks for your help.
