Nuvi 55 Garmin Express "There was an error installing the update"

Howdy,

Got a Nuvi 55 LM for Christmas. Downloaded Express for my PC. That went okay. What did not go okay was trying to update the unit.

The first time, the software part of the install hung at 50% and it then said "There was an error installing the update."

See attached.

Try number 2 mentioned that there was not enough space on the C: drive. It needed 185xxxKb and my hard drive only had 141xxx Kb. Mmkay, my C: drive has 792 Gb remaining. I never saw that error again.

Try 3-10 or so, it goes to "There was an error installing the update" after about 20 seconds.

I searched for a similar error and saw something about making sure that you are an admin on the PC. I am but I never saw that specific error.

Any ideas?

    I am sorry that you are having trouble updating your maps. Based on the status of the update, it is clear that the application is getting stuck when it is trying to build the maps using the downloaded files. The most common reason for this to happen is in fact a lack of space on drive C:. If you have enough space on C:, it could also be a permissions issue with one of the folders that Garmin Express writes to but this would be unlikely since it is a subfolder of the folders that have already been used. Unfortunately, these types of issues are very difficult to diagnose over the forums.

    You can try following the general troubleshooting steps in the FAQ What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client? You can also try temporarily disabling security and backup software. However, if this does not solve the problem, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.

    Thanks Jason. I really wish that there was some data associated with the error, to give someone something to go on. I may try another PC but it's not as convenient, as this one.
