Time Zone Map 16.02 Installation Prompted Repeatedly

Most times I open Express with my Edge 520 connected I have a feeling of deja vu, as I am told that the time zone map needs to be updated to 16.02....AGAIN. I have installed it (apparently successfully) countless times but still it prompts me. What is going on and is there a way to install it manually so Garmin Express might shut up about it?

Interestingly the gmaptz.img file in the root of the Garmin has an updated timestamp on it but the gmaptz.sum dates from August. Maybe the sum file is not getting updated by Express.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

I would be happy to help with the TimeZone map update. Try deleting the Edge from Garmin Express then adding it back again. Depending on how long the device has been added to Express and how many Garmin Express updates have been done, this could be just a case of older information stuck in Express.

You may also try deleting the GarminDeivce.xml file from inside the Garmin folder on the Edge then power cycling the device. It will recreate the file which acts like an inventory sheet. Once this is updated with current information you should no longer get the prompt to update the TimeZone map.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I have already done the "delete device from Express and start again" procedure, that didn't help.

Based on your suggestion I have now removed the GarminDevice.xml and power cycled. I backed it up so I could check the contents, the file came back exactly the same and as soon as I started express it said I needed to install the 16.02 update again. So that's not helped either.

Anything else you can suggest? Either the version checking, or the install of the time zone map, has a bug in it, so it would be good if we could raise a software defect and have this fixed properly, and by that I don't mean me having to delete this that or the other and power cycling until the message goes away.

This appears to be a localized issue. I just tested a Edge 520 and had no problem updating the TimeZone map. I suspect that the issue is still related to a corrupt file. Delete the TimeZone map downloaded on the computer and downloading it again. You might also check the or delete the existing TimeZone file on the Edge. The TimeZone map is called gmaptz.img and it is located the Garmin folder on the Edge.

    Delete the TimeZone download:
    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Firmware\Firmware_Firmware.006-D1074-00.16.02

Please make sure you are running Garmin Express 4.0.12.0 which is the latest version.

If you continue to have troubles please contact Garmin Product Support by phone so the issue can be thoroughly investigated.

Have deleted the downloaded rgn file as suggested and so far so good, no more prompts. Would think that this still constitutes a bug because it would suggest that there is no integrity checking on the downloaded file.

    Thanks,
