Express sync with device: Limit to drives Express can search for device???

My device (Edge 500) is added to Express however I have never been able to get Express to sync my activities with connect, I receive no errors, just "Sync Complete". As a result I've always had to manually upload the activities.

Using programming debugging tools (sysinternals process monitor). I see that whenever I try to sync Express seems to be looking for the device path on the C and D drive
GarminService.exe C:\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml PATH NOT FOUND
GarminService.exe D:\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml PATH NOT FOUND

As I have several drives, my garmin edge device is at the H: drive
I'm wondering if this is the root of my problem, that Express is not looking in the right place.

On a lark, I copied the Garmin folder from my device to C:\, so now I have a copy as C:\Garmin and when I click Sync in Express I get the message: "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect".

Could it be that Express is limited in where it will look for the device to sync files????

Express isn't limited to check only the C: or D: drives. Are your other drives physical drives or partitioned drives? Were these drives added after you had the Edge added to Express? Try deleting the Edge from Express then adding it back again. Another question. Do you have the Edge save your activities on a microSD card or the internal memory?

    Hi Curt
Thank you for the reply. All drives have been in place long before use of Express or even my Garmin in general (it is a mix of physical, partitions and DVD drives). The Edge 500 only has internal storage. I have added and remove the Edge from Express more time than I can recall in attempting to resolve Express, most recently a few days ago.

My drive question may not be at all related to the problems with sync. It was just an observation I made between tracing and the different Express behavior when copying the folders and files to C: that I thought was at least worth an inquiry.

    Thanks

I am sorry about the trouble. Garmin Express scans all drives for a GarminDevice.xml in the Garmin folder. I would recommend following the instructions here: What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express?.

If you still get an error or the device fails to sync, there may be some activity files cached on the computer that are causing the problem. You can remove these files by following the instructions here: How do I remove FIT files that fail to sync in Garmin Express from my computer?

If neither of these solutions solve the problem, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.
