Purchased map update online for download...how to download?

Not sure if this is the right forum but...

I purchased this map update online for download:

nüMaps OnetimeTm City Navigator® North America NT

The Garmin Communicator Plug-in is installed in Internet Explorer and I'm using IE to do all of this. When I go to myMaps, I can see the map I purchased under "Recent Map Purchases". I select my GPS (nuvi 755T) under "Add to Device", then I get the message:

You have already downloaded the map to your computer. Locate the map file and double-click it to begin the installation process. If you cannot locate the map file on your computer, you can download the map again.

When I click Download, it just takes me back to the myGarmin homepage.

Not sure what to do from that point. I just want to download and install the map I just purchased. Been trying different things for hours. I installed Garmin Express but it doesn't seem to help. This is the first map update that I've purchased since I bought the GPS in 2009 so I'm a newbie at this.

Thanks in advance for any help.
  • Can you confirm that your nuvi came with the US map installed? If not then a one time update won't work as you first need a map installed for it to update.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

On my GPS, went into Tools...Settings...Map...Map Info.

    It shows:

-CN North America NT 2010.20 3D
    -CN North America NT 2010.20
    [1] ALL

Both of the above have checkmarks to the left.
  • Have you tried running Express with your nuvi connected? I believe Express now will download one time map updates.

Add your nuvi to Express, you should find the map update under map and software updates.

Yes, I've tried Express. It even correctly detects my GPS when it's connected and shows the correct serial number. It shows "Software is Up to Date" (I managed to do that successfully yesterday via Express).

Below that it says "Map Updates Available". The button next to it says "See Pricing". That button just prompts me to login to Garmin to purchase a map update. But I've already purchased the update (online yesterday). Express doesn't seem to be able to detect that I've already purchased the map.
  • Then you'll need to wait for the Express team to comment, it could be an account issue, if so they should be able to resolve it.

Ok, thanks. By "Express team", do you mean someone from Garmin might reply here to offer help? If they don't, I'll just call them tomorrow.
  • Yes, they regularly help here.

I am sorry you can't begin the map update. To test the issue, I changed your myGarmin password. I will message you the steps to change it back.

From looking at your account, the map update never got assigned to the device due to the error you mentioned. I have pushed an update to the device so it will show in Garmin Express. Please follow these steps to begin the update:
    • Launch Garmin Express.
    • Select your device.
    • Click on "Tools".
    • Scroll to the bottom and select "Remove Device".
    • Confirm that you want to "Remove Device".
    • Connect the nuvi 755T to the computer.
    • Click on "Add a Device" once the computer detects the nuvi.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to add the device back to Garmin Express.
You will now see a Map Update is Available.

I am sorry you have had trouble starting the update. Let us know if you have more trouble.

Thanks a lot Dave. The map update worked after following your instructions.

I have a question for either you or anyone else who can answer...

I didn't have enough space on the GPS to install the entire update so I had to choose a region. I'm fine with that as long as I get my priority which is Canada. But there were various Canadian options presented:

    US & Canada
    East
    West
    Canada + Border States

I chose "US & Canada" and it installed. However, I'm just wondering if there's any difference in the Canada coverage or Canada map quality between, for example, "US & Canada" and "Canada + Border States". Am I losing any quality or coverage within Canada by selecting "US & Canada". Or as long as the area covered shows Canada, it doesn't matter which region is chosen, the map data is identical?

    Thanks
  • I'm not sure what US & Canada covers but I would have thought a more appropriate map for you would be Canada and the border states, that covers Canada and the various US states that meet the Canadian border.

You could of course install a sd card and download the full map?
