Win 10 and Garmin Express

I have a nuvi 1450. Ran just fine connecting to my Windows box under 7 and 8.1. when I went to Windows 10, that is where the problems start.

Since the first install of Windows 10, I experience these problems:

1. Upon starting Garmin Express, it takes a long time for it to see the Nuvi, if at all.
2. It takes forever for the Nuvi to switch into being connected to the computer vs. stand alone.
3. When it does see it, and connects, it does work for a while then it locks up my computer. The only fix is to unplug the Nuvi and reboot.

I am running the latest Garmin Express. Windows, now, is build 1511 10586.3 PRO x64.

My computer is home built with a ASUS M5a78l-m usb3 MOBO with an AMD FX 8300 8 core, 3.3 GHZ processor with 8GB ram.

TIA

Windows 10 build 1511 10586 and Garmin Express installing but not opening

    Hi

I'm experiencing strange behaviour with last GE version (4.1.10.0) on Windows 10.
GE worked fine on older version(4.1.6.0 i think) but when it upgraded automatically, the GE application window would'nt appear any more. I observed that a task called "Garmin Express (32 bits)" appears for a few seconds then disappears.

I thought maybe the installation was'nt good so i uninstalled 4.1.10.0 and installed 4.1.6.0. Hallelujah ! the GE splash screen appeared ... just long enough to tell me than a newer version should be installed. Back to 4.1.10.0 and the non appearing window and the disappearing task ...

I can't find any thread on that precise behaviour but this one that comes close ... does anyone have an idea ?

I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. Generally if Express will not launch, it might be caused by a corrupt config file on the computer. Please follow these instructions:

    • Press the Windows key + E
    • Type %localappdata%
    • Delete the folder named Garmin_Ltd._or_its_subsid
    • Try launching Garmin Express again

If you are still having trouble, please contact Product Support by phone.

The nuvi 1450 is a mass storage device that uses Microsoft USB mass storage drivers. It is very similar to a USB flash drive. Make sure the nuvi is connected directly to a USB port on the back or side of the computer. Depending on the computers USB chipset firmware they may not be reverting to communicate well with USB 2 devices, or your using a USB charging cable instead of a USB Data Transfer cable. The nuvi should show up as a drive letter in the "This PC" window if everything is health. If you continue to have trouble connect the nuvi to another PC and if it show up as a drive letter run a Check Disk on it the internal memory.

    How do I run a check disk or disk utility on my Garmin mass storage device?https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={db332ef0-5b42-11e2-f3fb-000000000000}

If you continue to have trouble contact Product Support by phone.

  • Mine does see both the internal and SD card memory and assigns them a letter. That is when it sees the device. When it sees the drives I do have access to them just like a USB Drive.

I am using the USB 2.0 ports and the cable that came with my Nuvi to connect to the PC. My other cable is the one for my vehicle that has the traffic receiver in it.

It, too, ran just fine with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with the same hardware configuration.

I have also ran it on a laptop with Windows 7 without these errors.

It seems to me it is only with Windows 1511 10586.3 PRO x64 and nothing else.

Maybe I will go back to an earlier version and see if it fixes it.

    Garmin Express cannot be installed

    Hello!
I have just bought a garmin navigator gps (nüvi 42LM) and I cannot install on my computer (PC) the programme Garmin Express.
That's the only way I have to register my device on Garmin's System so...
How can I do it? I don't understand why it isn't working. My computer uses W10 as a system.
Please, if you know the answer to my problem, tell me!
    Thank you in advance!!
  • Please see the comments above. If none help you will need to explain your problem in more detail since saying 'Express will not install' isn't much help.
