Garmin Edge 500 will not sync (logs included)

I am desperately trying to get my HR zone data onto my Garmin Edge 500. Why in the world someone decided to not make this configurable on the device is beyond me. I have to set it in Garmin Connect and then sync it over to the device using Garmin Express. Okay, I tried that. I get an error (with no error message) in Garmin Express. The log entry is below. Any ideas? This is the first time I have set this Edge 500 up in Garmin Express.

    I am sorry for the troubles. The log you provided really doesn't tell us why the sync failed. Let start with a couple basic suggestions. Since the Edge 500 has been around a while we are finding that customers who have used them for a long time tend to keep a lot of old activities on the device even after they have been upload to Garmin Connect. We recommend that you delete all the activities that have already been uploaded to Connect from the Edge. Make sure Garmin Express is up to date, there was an update released yesterday. Also there are two ways to send Training Zone information to the device. Please use the instructions in the FAQ below to send the data and let us know if you continue to have troubles.

    How do I update Garmin Express?

    How do I send my personal information and Training Zones to my fitness device from Garmin Connect?https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={ec203440-7c69-11e2-65d0-000000000000}

    If you continue to have sync problems login to your Connect account with a web browser and delete any items in the Sync menu on the left before trying to send the data again.

    Let us know if you continue to have troubles or contact Product Support by phone.

  • I had previously deleted all Activities and Totals from the Edge 500 before pairing it with Garmin Express and attempting the first sync, so that can't be the issue. I will download/install the update that was released yesterday and attempt again. If that fails I will come back into this thread and ask further questions. Thanks for your assistance on this.

    Did I read the FAQ correctly in that it is possible to send the personal information (training zones) to the Edge 500 via ANT+? Previously I had only done this via the USB cable.

    The Edge cannot communicate with Connect through ANT+. ANT+ is only for Sensors communicating with the device. There are two menus in Connect to transfer Training Zone / Heart Rate data. Profile -> Settings -> Training Zones and Devices -> Edge -> User Settings. The method in the article is preferred.
